Beautifully Draped

Images by REUTERS/Scanpix Norway

Mrs. O chose a beautifully draped grey dress with a small floral pin at the shoulder as she and the president participated in the Nobel Prize Signing Ceremony at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo, Norway this morning.

Update: We've learned from one of our favorite sites, Red Carpet Fashion Awards, that First Lady Mrs. O wears a Lanvin dress, as seen here.

I love this dress. Look at picture number 3 to see her shoes. (http://www.aftenposten.no/nyheter/iriks/article3416291.ece) Silver shoes. Perfect!

Mrs T, I would love love love if you can provide a full length picture of Michelle's dress. I'm gasping for air. It is truly stunning. Her makeup is fresh and lovely as always. I'm feeling that shade of pink.

Isn't she a regal picture of elegance and beauty ? Is it me or does it look like Michelle was born for this role ?

I just saw this picture on Getty Images and they are stunning. This dress in some photos appear to be grey while others look black. In all of the pictures this dress is beautiful. It looks like Lanvin to me (don't know why) but we will be excited to find out whose it is. I am so proud of and happy for both POTUS and FLOTUS.

I must know more about this coat and whether that is a collar or scarg

I literally felt my breath catch when I saw it. Maybe bc purple is my favorite color :)

I would have preferred this look for the ceremony. Although a beautiful color and outfit, the gold, (my opinion), was to "flashy" for the ceremony. By the way, this is my favorite website. I luv and pray for the Obamas.

By "scarg" I meant scarf...and the link didn't post. It was:

Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.

The President's speech was...I can't find the right word. Watch it for yourselves and you'll see. I woke up early to see it even though I TiVoed it, and just like I did with the Cairo speech, I'll no doubt watch it over and over again.

I am so proud, so so proud, of this couple. Sometimes just seeing these photos of them brings tears to my eyes.

I hate what the extremists (right AND left!) in this country are doing to this President. He's barely been in office 11 months and already the left is declaring him a failure because they all haven't gotten their ponies. "I want my pony now!" "I want it pink and no other color!" The right lost their collective minds the day he won and their campaign to smear, swiftboat and delegitimize him has been unceasing.

I remain proud and will continue to support him and his lovely wife.

.....and I die! This is quite possibly my favorite outfit she's ever worn!!
It is so stylish and I absolutely love it!

I'd kill for that gray dress - so soft & lovely. Does anyone know whose it is? She looks fantastic. I'm not so much a fan of the cardigan over the gold dress at the Nobel ceremony, though. A little too casual looking? Don't get me wrong - I adore them both. Thank god they're in the White House.

I LOVE this dress. But I especially the LOVE LOVE LOVE the gold dress from the ceremony! The Nobel Prize is all about gold. And I love how she weaves the theme of the events into her attire. 4/4 Mrs. O. Can't wait to see you tonight.

Beautiful!

I cannot say enough good things about this dress! For one thing, the construction is exquisite. It is incredibly difficult to drape just the front of a skirt properly, and look at the way it is cut around the arms and the shoulders. There is only one seam, a small one, across each shoulder. The draping is of a piece over the front, and then gathered over the arms and at the side. Whoever sewed this is a genius.

I agree with Maria C that I would have preferred this for the ceremony -- or for Mrs. O. to somehow incorporate the coat. Check out Princess Mette-Merit (the blonde woman in white) for another approach.

I love how this dress drapes her figure-very lovely.

VERY, very elegant. Gray is a beautiful color for Mrs. O.

Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 12:45 PM | Registered Commentersailorsgirl

That lipstick is marvelous! The perfect, quasi-quirky counterpoint to a grey dress.

Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 12:53 PM | Unregistered CommenterLauren

I think this dress is one of the most attractive day-time looks Mrs. O has ever worn. It is fabulously designed. It drapes perfectly. It is pure elegance, femininity, strength. I agree that it's great to see her in this new silhouette, which is very flattering. I, too, prefer this subdued elegance to the gold ensemble.

Alber Elbaz is a genius!

I think this is my favorite of all her Oslo looks. So chic, understated, flattering, quietly interesting.

Just beautiful. And the little flower broach is a wonderful touch.

Perfect. The drape, the pin, the color, the fit. The movement. More Lanvin, Michelle!

Wow--how many outfits has she worn in the past 24 hours ?!! amazing. This is the quintessence of what a Day Dress should be. She looks femme and lawyer-ly at the same time.

Jestina,

It's not just you. I agree 1000%.

She was born for this role. I second that emotion.

I have to say - not my favourite. BUT, my Lady is glowing as usual.

Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 6:18 PM | Registered Commenterprettiribbons

What a fabulous dress...so classic! The color looks terrific on Mrs. O., and the brooch adds just the right touch.

Friday, December 11, 2009 at 4:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterChristen

Love the dress, but didn't they have something better than a Bic pen??

Friday, December 11, 2009 at 8:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterKarenS

Maybe this has been asked and answered before, but... does she travel with a make-up/hairstylist? She always looks so perfect and I'm going to be even more jealous if I find out she's doing this all herself!

Friday, December 11, 2009 at 2:37 PM | Unregistered Commenterclb

Love the neckline and draping of the Lanvin, but not really excited about the waistline of this dress, as it looks blah. Really could have been over-the-top with a nice jacket.

Hopefully this will work, another view of her dress that I found on Prime Minister of Norway flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/statsministerenskontor/4174150230/

Completely perfect. I love the cut and drape of this dress and - as usual, Michelle's hair and make-up are no less than perfect. Glorious.
