A Staple Suit

Image used with kind permission from Small Dog Electronics

I thought we could use a new post to tide us over until Mrs. O is back on the official first lady circuit in Washington. Though a bit after the fact, I recently received permission from a photographer to feature a photo of Mrs. O taken at a White House holiday reception on December 7. It's notable because it gives us another look at Mrs. O's Michael Kors gold lurex suit jacket and pencil skirt.

For those keeping count, Mrs. O has worn at least three of these Michael Kors suits, including the red silk shantung and yellow lacquered boucle versions shown below. It's interesting to see how different fabrics can take the same suit through various seasons.

Inasmuch as this was a Christmas event, I'm surprised she didn't wear the red jacket and skirt again (Kors does not call these "suits" and he sells the pieces separately as jacket and skirt.)

That's interesting that they are sold as separates, BeeGee. I wouldn't have guessed. The gold is kinda evocative of festive events - let's not forget tinsel!

Nyon, nice.

While everything is on hold, you might enjoy this WSJ piece from last year on the Mulleavy sisters who are Rodarte:

And there is this on Rodarte's spidery new sweaters for men. Hmmm.

Bevi, here is a current example of the Kors retailing of tops and skirts as separates:

Here is the skirt, shown with a top that is offered separately:

Aw. I just read that Joe Biden's mother died today. She seemed like a remarkable lady. (And, fashion-wise -- very chic!)

Remember how fabulous she looked on Election Night?

I like this dress http://www.flickr.com/photos/statephotos/3950135226/sizes/l/

Although I posted some links to Michael Kors's website, they didn't make the cut. I was attempting to illustrate what I had posted at 3:38 yesterday afternoon - that Michael Kors sells these matching pieces as separates - shown on his website in Tops and Skirts with individual pricing. He does not sell "suits".

I like al of the suits, The yellow is my most favorite. It is light and youthful!
Now, Mrs. O, please come out of hiding! Where have you been?

I love the yellow suit and I may be in the minority but I think the gold suit is fabulous.

P.S. I just got. Mrs. T's book and it is just great from beginning to end.

Mrs.O, where art thou? I, too, am waiting patiently for a blast of winter inspiration...

Mrs. O?? Come out, Come out, wherever you are! Walk Bo, go to church, pick a potato from the garden, something, anything! We miss you and your fabulous fashions!!

Lisa, you are not in the monority, I love the gold suit too but the yellow one does it for me more than the others. The red is fantastic but the yellow seems more versatile particularly regarding the fabric . I would wear the jacket with jeans for weekends, white or brown linen pants for summer and slacks for daytime.

That dress that C. Terra posted yesterday at 6:58 a.m. is fantastic. Did I miss it before, or did we miss it somehow? I'd love to know more about it.

@ operafanatic, I wish it were a new dress! It's Nina Ricci, posted here: http://mrs-o.org/newdata/2009/9/24/ushering-in-the-new-season.html

Thanks for the links, BeeGee. I really love the collarless side button look on the kimono jacket. Maybe Mrs. O will wear that version in the future.

My heartfelt thoughts to the Biden family.

I'll grasp at anything that looks "new" at this point, we are suffering from drought conditions here on this blog ladies. I must have missed that Nina Ricci dress too. Thanks for posting the link!!
Once again, a gorgeous color on her and such interesting detail. Hope to see her wear it again sometime.

Well, guys Mrs. O will be hosting a dinner tonight with her hubby. Don't know if it is open to the press. Let's Hope and Wish!!!! (real hard)

Monday, January 11, 2010 at 2:01 PM | Registered CommenterNyon

Hello everyone! Total Mrs. O withdrawal going on here. I really hope they release a photo of the gathering tonight, although they tend to not want miilitary events to become photo ops. Oh well.

Monday, January 11, 2010 at 3:38 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

Nyon: The dinner will be closed to the Press...

Iva: As much as I too miss seeing Mrs Obama, I'm so glad she's getting much needed rest from the meanspirited digs from some here...

Even though she will be at Joe Biden's mum's funeral tomorrow with President Obama, I know that the more decent participants here will remember to be mindful of the reason she's at that too and all due respect shown...

Monday, January 11, 2010 at 4:03 PM | Registered CommenterAudrey

I agree, I do think she deserves the "rest" which I think is more in terms of a rest from the media and a judgmental pubilc eye. I doubt she's sitting on the couch watching tv this whole time.

Monday, January 11, 2010 at 4:58 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

Oh well, I guess that was wishful thinking on my part. Thanks for letting me know IVA and Audrey. BTW, what's up IVA, hope you are having a good new year so far. And I agree with you ladies, although I am itching for a new photo. LOL!!

Monday, January 11, 2010 at 6:20 PM | Registered CommenterNyon

I agree with Nancy, The yellow and red are truly beautiful and fits Mrs. O just perfect. In the gold one she looks like a granny. It looks very old fashioned, I dont like this oufit at all and I believe this is not one of her best styles as it is not very flattering. Mrs. O is so perfect in these flashy bright colors.

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 10:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterJewelsbyRegina

The yellow is pretty on her, and the red one is a pretty suit; I think it's the way the photograph's taken that's not doing her or the dress any favors, but overall I don't think this is a style that really flatters her for some reason.
