Bold One Shoulder

First Lady Mrs. O arrived in Marbella, Spain today, where she kicked off her vacation with a walk through the town's center. For the tour, Mrs. O wore a one-shoulder top by Jean Paul Gaultier, slim black pants, classic black sunglasses and a stack of beaded bracelets.

This isn't the first time we've seen Mrs. O in a bold one-shoulder style. You can see another chic example just below this post!

My former mother-in-law had a favorite expression when she saw something that she really liked. She'd say "well, that's just the bees knees"! I concur. I really like this outfit. The top is simple yet chic, just the right accessories and she's on vacation to boot. I bet a lot of us will be stepping up our vacation attire and this one gives me loads of ideas. Keep it simple and stylish..... way to go FLOTUS!

TBG is the Secret Service agent who is always with Mrs. O. Christina named him "Tall Bald Guy", and the name stuck.

I like the concept of this look, but not the total execution of it. The top, while fabulous, is ill-fitted on the First Lady. She should have either worn a strapless bra or had bra cups sewn into the top so that she had better shape on top. Also, not too keen on visible tan lines. She's the FLOTUS, she should have had some help correcting those mistakes. The rest is spot on.

??? How does one correct the "mistake" of visible tan lines? Even Mrs. O doesn't have power over her skin's reaction to the sun. Yeesh.

I'm REALLY not trying to stir up a hornet's nest with this, but in the African American community, by and large, we don't fret over tan lines. Having VTL (visble tan lines) is not a fashion faux pas. Some women will wear bronzer or concealing powder to conceal them, but that is rare. I have a cousin who is extremely fair skinned and she would give her left arm for a tan, yet alone a tan line. I just think considering a VTL as something worth correcting may very well be a cultural thing.
