Dynamic Duo

Photo by Carolyn Kaster / AP Images

The President and First Lady visited Fort Bragg yesterday, as President Obama gave a speech to mark the end of the Iraq war. To introduce her husband, Mrs. Obama also gave brief remarks. Read the full transcript, posted by Time, here.

Style wise, Mrs. O wore a washed rose and tweed dress by Rachel Roy, seen previously here, paired with a black cardigan and Mary Jane pumps. A wool and leather jacket by Alaia, a black handbag and gloves completed the look.

What I love most about the the president is the way he looks at his wife. His love for her is palpable.

Love the bag - shape, soft leather feel, usefulness! Mrs. O has used many times -- but have never seen reference to who's bag it is. Anyone know the designer?

On the style front, her shoes take center stage here...chic, lady-like. The second photo has such a wonderful mood to it...it seems to just capture both of their personalities so well....warming indeed.

@ Jackie, I totally agree!

Watched the event live. When President Obama sayed "welcome home!", I teared up as I am so happy our troops are finally leaving Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm praying daily for their safety and for the reunion/reuniting of the families.

@ Jackie & Soccer Nana - I too, totally agree. Their love for each other is incredibly deep. I truly melt every time I see him gushing at his wife. He is incredibly proud to have been given the highest job in the land but I'm sure he agrees as well as I do, that without the strength and support of his amazing wife, he may never have achieved his dream. Of that, I am certain.

I pray to God to send me a man who would love me as unconditionally as the President loves his wife. And I don't care what happens next November, of course I would love to see them both in the White House for another four years but either way I am honoured, privileged, happy and thoroughly delighted to have lived through this chapter in history. All of my Obama books from his memoirs, presidential campaign, inauguration and books dedicated to Mrs Obama's fashion will take pride of place of my coffee table forever.

Mrs. O's legs look sooo good in the first shot. And her whole look is so upscale and expensive! I love it! Love it so much I actually wish she had her hair done. And I love the Mary Janes. Def a new look for her.

Mrs. O looks wonderful! I love the dress by Rachel Roy and seeing the Alaia coat again. ( I remember her debuting the coat in France in the spring of 2009.) She looks lovely. The Mary Jane pumps are a nice surprise as well. The make a wonderful couple.

I really covet our First Lady's wardrobe! She always looks so pulled together. And I do give credit to our POTUS for choosing such a wonderful woman in the first place. The man has impeccable taste and standards.

Hey did anyone see the video of the "Tribute to Obama" posted on Obama diaries and sung to the melody of the twelve days of Christmas? It is truly precious!!

I totally agree with Jackie..His love for FLOTUS is so genuine and real!...The way the world is now, it would have you think that a love like that only happens in the movies.

They are truly an inspiration and they make me proud that they're my POTUS and FLOTUS!

Mrs. O has previously worn this jacket during a trip to Sasha's school (Sidwell Friends).

oh my goodness, i absolutely LOVE her Mary Jane pumps! i'm such a sucker for this style of shoes, and this pair is so gorgeous! i believe this is the first time we've seen her wear these type of shoes for an outing. i suppose you could get them most anywhere, but i'd be interested to know if we could get info on where the FLOTUS got hers from.

I like to think that Michelle's poise and confidence largely comes from within...but I'm sure it doesn't hurt that confidence one bit to have her husband look at her like that everyday. :)

Love, love, love the shoes. In my head, I'm already pairing them with outfits in my closet. I would get a lot of use out of them!

I have a fashion question. I notice that Mrs. Obama rarely wear stockings, even in winter. This works well, as her skin color lends itself to going bare-legged. But I am wondering if it is now the style for women to go without hosiery year-round. I don't live in a very fashion-forward town, so I cannot tell just from looking around at others. Fashion magazines have 20-something models who eschew stockings. This is something I have been curious about for a while. Ladies, what is your opinion on this? (Mrs. T., I don't know if this is an appropriate question for this forum...but thought it relevant since so many seek to emulate Mrs. Obama's amazing style.) Many thanks.

Love those strappin' shoes! I wonder if they hurt her toes....

They are a force to be reckoned with!
I saw some footage of the soldiers after the program was over with, they were more excited to meet our Michelle than POTUS! She's an amazing First Lady that we are so proud of. You can tell that she still enchants her husband, just take a look at his face!
On a fashion front, I don't think we've ever seen her in May Janes before. Our Michelle normally favors plain pumps, this is a nice diversion. They look good on her.

It doesn't matter what they wore on this day. The day is so important and so welcome.
Let's welcome our service men and women with open hearts and thanks for what they have done.
Let's hope and pray that this hard-fought battle will result in Peace in the Middle East.

This is the best Christmas gift for the country...bringing home our soldiers!

Uh Oh, Sharon Sue, that is a question that has had much debate on these threads. Everyone has their own opinion and I do think it's a generational preference of wearing stockings or not. I personally don't wear them and don't see many of my peers wearing them unless it's a special occassion or they're the new designer tights. However, there have been some on here like Jerseygirl (where are you lady? the stockings debate usually makes you come out and play, LOL) or Jestina who say that they don't think a lady is fully dressed unless they have stockings on. I don't know if that answers your question, but I say to each her own. If you like to wear them, wear them and if you don't, don't. Peace!

We might not want to revisit the stockings debate . . . . .
