Lovely Ladies

Images by Alex Wong / Getty Images

First Lady Mrs. O and Dr. B have joined forces once again, hosting a Mother's Day event for military connected mothers, grandmothers, and spouses in the East Room of the White House today.

From a fashion standpoint, Mrs. O wore a Ports 1961 dress accessorized with a metallic belt and Erickson Beamon brooch, while Dr. B donned a vibrant pink dress with floral heels.

Looks like it's a "already-worn" fashion event. Mrs. O wore that dress during The First Family's trip to South America. And she wore that pin at the DNC in 2008. I love this look!!!!!

She's back with the belts! Loving this look on her!

I know Mrs. Obama prefers sleeveless looks, but this sleeve length on her is just lovely.

And are those the inauguration pumps I see?

This is a matronly dress on Mrs. O. but I love the pink one on Dr. Biden. A festive occasion, for sure.

Fabulous ladies. Truly Glamarous.

Loved FLOTUS in this dress the second time around. Everything including her dress, hair, makeup, brooch and shoes seemed to be aligned. She looked happy despite a busy week. Dr. Biden's dress is to die for and her shoes are sooooo cute.

Not my favorite for Mrs O but I applaud what she and Mrs B are doing for military families.

I like Michelle Obama's look a lot. Dr. Biden's dress looks too cocktail and too young for her. The fit is weird too.

I like the styling of our Michelle's outfit the second time around! And Dr.B is gorgeous as usual, she's got a good eye for shoes too!

I'm not thrilled with the little cap sleeves on Dr Biden's dress... but that's a good color for her.

Really like Mrs. O's dress, but Dr. B looks like an almost hot mess. The dress looks teenage-ish and bridal party and she needs to wear stockings.

Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 9:44 AM | Unregistered CommenterThe Cincinnati Kid

The sleeves are a nice change, the A line shape is very flattering, she should wear this look more often.
She looks comfortable and confident.
Jill, oth, while in fabulous shape for her age, is getting to the age where stockings would be a good idea. I know, everyone hates them, but she would still look youthful, with a terriffic figure, and some barely there hose.

Very nice event at the White House. I like that Mrs. Obama is reaching into her closet and re-cycling her dresses. This outfit looks great on her and she looks very relaxed. When she welcomes everyone to the White House, I know she really means it! I like the pink color on Dr. Biden and her shoes are great. I'm not terribly fond of the style of her dress, but her jewelry is very pretty.

Here's the back of the oatmeal dress - photographed as they left New Delhi for Indonesia.

Jill Biden's dress looks like some I loved in the '80s. She may be shopping her 1980s closet? A little too "cute", a little too cocktaily. She has a great body - needs some counsel on what would maximize her look.

Both look wonderful

I have to say: if Mrs. O had not established bright colors and fashionable clothes as a "normal" part of political life, Mrs. B would probably have worn the traditional political woman "suit."

Kudos to Mrs. O for the "game change" over the past couple of years.

What a wonderful event! Those women in attendance are so deserving of this and more, I wish them the best. I appreciate how this administration has made it a priority to acknowledge military families.
Onto fashion, both FLOTUS and SLOTUS are looking relaxed and healthy. I love how the color in Jill Biden's dress compliments her skin tone. She looks younger and younger. Amazing!
Our Michelle is wearing one of my favorites. I'm kicking myself right about now. This dress was on sale at yoox.com last week and guess who was procrastinated? Oh well, maybe it'll show up on ebay! Anyway, I like that she accessorized with teal pumps and that fabulous brooch.
Good looking ladies!

Nice colour on Jill, the sleeves I can do without, Mrs O, very niice. The ladies in the seem to be very impressed.

President and Mrs O out at Tosca for night out. Jewelry box must be hidden in pocket. As an aside, Dr. B needs someone to say no. I don't care how in shape she is, at a certain point the skirts need to be lowered and the shiny prom dresses need to be saved for retro night at the White House music series.

Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 9:46 PM | Registered CommenterAnagrom

Very nice dress on Mrs. O. She looks lovely and relaxed. Dr B's dress is another story. Too short, too much shine, too poofy sleeves. She is a lovely woman but this dress is a glaring misfit on her.

lol! Anagrom, you stole my comment about Dr. Biden. But Mrs. O lolls lovely; great lines on her (length, accessories, et all contribute to this making this flowy look successful).

Dr. B does look "younger and younger." I think she's changed her facial appearance--heavier eye makeup and maybe Botox?? And she's got some bangs now. Looking fabulous, but I think I liked "the old Jill."

Sunday, May 8, 2011 at 10:30 AM | Unregistered CommenterPat

Oh, Jill, no! This is not the time to recycle an old bridesmaid's dress.

Sunday, May 8, 2011 at 10:50 PM | Registered CommenterHyde Parker

I'm with Anogram and the rest of you. Jill and MO look like they were at entirely different events, possibly in different decades. It's time to calm down a little, Dr. B. You have a great body and great spirit, but you're not doing yourself any favors with looks like this.

Monday, May 9, 2011 at 12:27 AM | Registered Commenteroperafanatic

Way to go! The belt is in the right place and is the right width. Michelle looks great. This is the first time I have to say Dr. Biden really missed the mark. WAY too young with the cap sleeves and too shiny for daytime. However, the color is amazing on her.

Monday, May 9, 2011 at 1:40 AM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

Nice looks on both ladies and I like seeing how their different characters come out in their clothes. That colour on Dr B is fanTABulous! And I seem to remember not liking that dress on Mrs O the first time out, but this time it's lovely. I don't like it with the green accessories, but somehow she makes it work.

agreed @ Anogrom, et.al...someone please tell Dr. B it's okay to "age gracefully"...actually you really look better when you do! As always, Mrs. Obama looks great...love the movement of her dress. God bless Mrs. O, God bless our First Family and God bless America.

Oh, dear, I love Jill Biden to death, but this dress is not doing her any favors!! The color (if it weren't so shiny here) would be beautiful on her, but it really does look like a 1980-something bridesmaid's dress -- cut off short because the bride always TOLD you you could wear it again! Dr. Biden, I'm just a couple of years younger than you and would kill to have your face and/or figure, but you need to let go and pass these outfits down to your granddaughters' dress-up box.

Monday, May 9, 2011 at 5:08 PM | Unregistered Commenterwes207

Mrs. Obama looks great--and I love those lines in her dress, very slimming. Jill Biden looks like "mutton dressed as lamb." It doesn't help with her dated hairstyle.

@ Charlene in Detroit

How much was this dress going for on yoox.com?

Thanks

Mrs. O. does look great in a 3/4 sleeve length. Ford the first time, I am not liking Dr. Biden's outfit at all. As "Cincinnati" mentioned, it reminds me of a cheap prom dress for a high-schooler.

Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 4:45 AM | Unregistered CommenterChristen

I like Mrs O's dress and I am happy to see her in sleeves for a change. The whole "sleeveless" look even throughout the frigid winters gets to be a little monotonous.

Sadly, this is one of the few times where Jill Biden got it all wrong. She looks like she's out of the early 80's with that frilly prom-ish disaster.

99.9% of the time she is flawless, more often than Mrs. O I dare say.

@ MD, this dress by Ports 1961 was on sale for $130. That was the last markdown. I think the dress originally went for $390. I am still kicking myself because I was going to buy it when the first markdown was $190. Then, Yoox.com took down all of the winter clearance for three weeks. They bought the winter things back only for people who are registered with them. So word to the wise, REGISTER! They'll send you regular updates, no spam, very good customer service and the sales are wonderful!
Hope this helps!
