Color Block

Photo by Foto 24 / Gallo Images / Getty Images

The First Lady was in Soweto, South Africa today, where she met with Antoinette Sithole, sister of Hector Pieterson, a victim of the 1976 Soweto uprising. Ms. Sithole is pictured above. Later in the day, the First Lady also addressed the Young African Youth Leaders Forum in Johannesburg.

On a fashion note, Mrs. O debuted a striking color block dress and jacket today, accesorized with a pin at the neckline and bold blue flats.

This is super sensational. I saw a close up of the brooch on another website and it really pulls the outfit together. I also like the fact that Mrs Obama has shown how one pair of shoes can go with many outfits. Love the colour, love the cut, love the woman. LOVED the Soweto speech - loved it !!

I also LOVED the Soweto speech, and was anxiously waiting for an update about her outfit here. Thanks again!

Oh my, what a great look for our FLOTUS. It's very First Ladylike, but looks very current.

Are those the same flats she wore on arrival and then with the coral suit? The First Lady knows how to pack!

And I love that faux bob she's been favoring.

Its great that the Mrs.O has finally embrassed jackets in her wardrope, they look more formal than sweaters/cardigans. Thats how a FLOTUS needs to dress.

Beautiful colours ... striking outfit. I'm sure pple will remark that it's too tight or too revealing, but, personally, I love seeing her curves. She looks great.

Have a great day, ladies ...

I like the colour however the dress in my opinion is a bit tight and the jacket.a size small it looks a bit odd from the back

this whole trip warms my heart - the sheer symbolism of it all...it almost does not matter what she wears!
i love these colors!

I like this. A different take on the boring jacket so many professional women get locked in to. Love the colors.

Absolutely Omazing.

Color blocking! Love it! Multi-tasking shoes....smart.

I think I would really love this if she had gone up one size. The fabric is stretched tight at the arms and hips and the side view (on other sites) is less than flattering. The color combination is gorgeous.

Welcome to Africa again, to South Africa indeed! Mrs Obama looks radiant with blue color to visit Soweto and surroundings.

I've never really cared for color blocking one way or the other, but this is nice. I saw some footage on bbbc.uk and close up you see the colors are pale yellow, grey, blue and turquoise. This works on so many levels. To me the outfit looks like Michael Kors but my best friend said she heard that it was Rachel Roy. Oh well, time will tell.
Not only is our Michelle giving us fashion fever, the girls and Mrs. Robinson are donning some pretty nice outfits themselves. This looks like it's been a rewarding experience so far, and I'm sure it will continue. Does anyone know if there are any formal events planned?

The colors are nice but I am not sure I like it. Sometimes I like the oufit and sometimes I do not. I am really not sure.

I love that Michelle is confident with her body, many women should adopt her confidence. The suit is beautiful. However, I never like her hair pinned up like this. Work those curves FLOTUS>

We all seem to be forgetting that Michele is a young First Lady, its important that she wears what she loves. her attitude, her confidence shows she does not have a problem. Lets love her for the person that she is.

I love these colors.
The suit however could be a half size to one whole size larger.
I love her curves! But the crease in the skirt and the way the sleeves hug her in the jacket indicate that it is too tight. Def needs to be a little looser...
Love the shoes.

The suit fits and the color coordination is great.

The Soweto speech was great, but the outfit? Meh. I agree that the jacket is much too small.

Friday, June 24, 2011 at 4:29 AM | Unregistered CommenterChristen

Interesting contrast in the styles and fits of the two jackets displayed in this picture--one oversized and the other shrunken!

I'm blown away by this outfit. Do we know yet who brilliantly designed it?
