Mrs. O in Reed Krakoff

President Obama took the official oath of office today, with Mrs. O right by his side! Of note, the bible used for the oath of office belonged to Mrs. Obama's grandparents.

Per the pool report, a White House official has indicated that the first lady is wearing a dark blue dress by Reed Krakoff. Krakoff has been the creative director at Coach since 1996 and launched his own eponymous line in 2010. To see Mrs. O's previous selections from the designer, click here.

What a perfect dress and shrug for the Oath of Office in the Blue Room of the White House. The President and First Lady look wonderful, so do Malia and Sasha. A great day for all. I cannot wait to see Mrs Obama's choices for Monday!

She looks fabulous. It's amazing how a hairstyle can make is looks so changed! The hair and dress, the ensemble is a winner. :)

A beautiful rich colour on Mrs Obama, and I love that in her hand she holds a well-loved Bible from her grandparents.

Beautiful Dress! However, I think I'm in the minority in that I do not care for the new hairstyle. It hides her gorgeous face, rather than framing it naturally. It looks more like a wig, almost like a helmet. I do hope she wears it up for the inauguration.

Mrs. Obama's outfit is pretty--appears there may be an inverted pleat(s) at the bottom from a picture on The Obama Diary and I like this length. The material looks so soft/smooth. I would like to see the different hair styles she will wear with the bangs--I think it is a lot she can do with the look--and she will surprise us during the upcoming events. Can't wait to see everything unfold!

@NotTheRedBaron - I could not agree more about the hair! Mrs. O is so beautiful and the bangs hide her face. Wish she had waited until after tomorrow to make a change. The photos will look very dated instead of classic unless she sweeps those bangs away.
Love the dress, though.

Beautiful outfit and a gorgeous color for her.
I'm liking the hair more and more. It was such a shock given the hairstyles we've seen her in for the past several years. But new term, new hair style!

First Lady looking fabulous as always. As for the hairstyle,, Its different. I believe she will wear it in different ways. It is ok to have a change in looks. It keeps things interesting.. Although I do agree with the "helmet look" comment above. hopefully she will play with it and style it different ways... so her features are not hidden... My only concern is the havoc the wind in the last inauguration. I hope she uses a good holding hair spray this time. Either way she rocks her style.

FLOTUS' new hairstyle is a nice change-up, and she always looks good. It's a youthful-looking style as well. OTOH, I do tend to agree that the full frontal bangs and their length obscure somewhat her gorgeous, expressive face. Perhaps if the bangs weren't quite as long. In any case, she's just changing up and refreshing her look which is a fun thing to do. I think this type of hairstyle might look good on Malia and Sasha. :)

The keyhole picture of POTUS with FLOTUS where FLOTUS is wearing that gorgeous green dress ... in that pic her new hairstyle looks great.

Well the time is nigh and I'm waiting with ever greater anticipation. I find so laughable the media's apparent self-consciousness about discussing Mrs. O's clothes. They fail to understand that there are many different levels involved, and there is nothing wrong with talking about what FLOTUS wears right along with the substance of who she is and what she does.

It is significant that Mrs. O's unique style, grace and elegance has helped elevate and strengthen the fashion industry. There's nothing trivial about that. She has fun with what she wears but she also treats it matter-of-factly because it's just one part of who she is. She has to wear something! It's just a bonus that she's so comfortable in her own skin and so efficient, stylish and masterful when it comes to sartorial matters. There's certainly no need to obsess, but we all have every right to look, to discuss, and to admire as well as to oohh and ahhh!

Lots of people care about FLOTUS' outward appearance and what she wears will always have relevance because she has such style, grace and elegance. As said before, it's Mrs. O who wears the clothes (the clothes do not wear her). Because she enhances what she wears, that's one reason why every designer would like to create outfits for her.

As far as Mrs. O working on new (substantive) agendas, FLOTUS has been doing that both before and after her husband became President. She will take on new agendas that she feels are worthy and that she feels can make a significant difference in peoples' lives.

To me, it's interesting how Mrs. O had to fight with some members of the President's team during his first administration to forge an important role and to make her voice heard. Now everyone is falling all over themselves begging and questioning her and her staff about her taking on new agendas. LOL.

Inauguration Day and Inauguration Evening are next on MY agenda! LOL :)

What I like about Mrs O, and there are many things, is so great at wearing different designers that frankly I had never heard of before, unlike previous first ladies who stuck with the "name" ones. For that she deserves kudos for encouraging and supporting up and coming designers.

I do agree with those who feel Mrs. O’s new hairstyle tends to look like a wig. I look beyond her hair at all times and feel more important is her inspirational influential ways that continue to change and improve lifestyles. It’s nice to get other opinions when you make these changes.

It may look different in person and I’m sure she tried different styles before she made this decision. My favourite is still the side sweep worn in April 09 in her black Alaia dress as mentioned by Eleroy.

I prefer bangs to her hairdo worn at the second debate, IMO that style made her look older – so yes this is more youthful.

CNN actually did a whole segment on what she may be wearing, what she does for the fashion industry, had interviews with Jason Wu and Isabel Toledo, so respect is being paid to FLOTUS fashion which is great! She looked beautiful for the swearing in. I love the playfulness of the bangs and think they work for certain, edgy outfits, but I do prefer them swept to the side for the reasons mentioned here...hides some of her beautiful face and expressions....she has great eyebrows. Also, I just think swept off to the side is more sophisticated. I think she can wear them a few ways which I hope she does. Can't wait for tomorrow!!

Classy hues for Obama's muse....I'm loving the bangs and hair length......10-years younger with the surgery - JUST FABULOUS. Kudos to Michelle! I feel some lovin' in the air tonight :)

Mrs. O looks great! The girls looked super cute too. I'm digging Mrs.O bangs, of course because they're just like mines, but even if they weren't, I would love them! And even though I like them, I'm sure that doesn't matter to her because her man loves them and he told us so this evening!!! That is all that matters, all the rest is..................!!!!!!

BTW, she looked good tonight and so did Dr. Jill, POTUS, and VPOTUS!!

She and her husband must be so exhausted from their nonstop schedule, but Mrs Obama was simply gorgeous in this ensemble. She stunned in the clean simplicity of this look. She's always very well-groomed.
Her hair and face perfection too - with those gorgeous eyes of hers that beam such sweet innocence and unwitting seduction - from a woman who exudes such strength.
She's so lovely - the complete package; and so are her daughters.
President Obama is indeed a very lucky man. To be bestowed with such a woman and daughters!
As one of the songs from the Sound of Music goes--"somewhere in his youth or childhood, he must have done something good--"
"---Nothing comes from nothing; Nothing ever could; So somewhere in my youth or childhood - I must have done something good--" the captain and Maria..
@Wanda, see you're back again trying out different ways to offend and insult.

Little did we know yesterday that Reed Krakoff would play such a major role, not only at t his event but today as well. He did a phenomenal job on both accounts. Our Michelle as well as POTUS and the girls look absolutely lovely!

I think the coat had a zipper , are the princess seams corded on both the dress and coat? Is the dress back zipped or front. The boots, did she have legwarmers over them at some point? I would love to get a really good look at the outfit.
