Aloha

The President and First arrived at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu, Hawaii last Friday. The Obama family will spend their annual holiday vacation in Hawaii, returning to Washington on January 5.

Landing in Honolulu, Mrs. O wore a vibrant printed sundress paired with a cropped black cardigan. Gold hoops completed the warm weather look.

Update: Mrs. O wears the Taped Frock in Modern Camo by Tracy Reese, available here.

Saw the shorts photo--not very flattering in my view...and this (basketball game photos) is first time I've seen Mrs O looking so morose...

Charming! I hope that they receive some well-deserved time to relax, regroup, reflect, and contemplate on their God-given roles in this world. Mrs. Obama shows evidence of her innate wisdom every day, and her care, concern, patience and welfare for others. It was so fortuitous that the children's grandmother was able to live with them. It has been wonderful that they've been our First Family for more than five years.

They’re glowing already and both look so beautiful and happy at the start of their yearly tradition – in paradise and fabulous weather. Christmas at home – so memorable and sweet for a very very hard working first couple. God Bless them always.
Thanks Mrs. T for the opportunity to write comments about my inspirational and stylish First lady. Wishing you and yours a safe happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year. Also merry everything and happy always to my fellow bloggers.

I love everything about this woman. I wish her all the best. This can't be easy on her. Having her own needs take a back seat while being asked to support her husband and silently tolerate everything. Don't even get me started on some of these female supporters of her husband who show no propriety or respect. Politics has devolved into tweeting as many sexually suggestive images of a president to get the women excited. I don't wish this nightmare on any wife. Marriage is hard enough without the added pressure this horrible political angle brings.

Oh my and the daughters are growing into such beautiful young ladies. I see Sasha has lost some weight. I knew as she grew older she would blossom. All those hateful things people said about her weight. A curse on your houses all of them and Sasha has the last laugh.

I love Mrs Obama's style but don't understand her preferance for half sweaters as they only accentuate her pear shape and sway back. Longer sweaters and jackets would be so much more flattering by evening out her proportions.

The dress is very cute, however, she pairs the same black cardigan frequently. I think a yellow cardigan or blazer would have added more to the outfit. I hadn't seen the shorts photo until just now and I was shocked that she would attend even a sports event dressed in such a manner. The pieces did not match and obviously were not meant to be paired together. A pair of culottes would have been much more appropriate and would have still shown plenty of leg. Finally, I have to laugh a bit at Gus's interpretation of what this "horrible political angle" brings to their marriage. If he wasn't being facetious than perhaps he should take a long and very necessary look at the Presidential salary and perks that is afforded a First Lady, including a very lengthy Hawaii vacation that most Americans can not afford and would die for the opportunity to just stay for one week at a relatively nice hotel.

Mrs Obama: A superb, unassuming and enchanting First Lady, who without trying to be, remains still so positively intriguing and powerfully captivating; and 6 years later, continues to hold the attention, love and respect of so many the world over--

She even unwittingly continues to own huge chunks of space in the heads of those who exist primarily to gnaw away at her; Desperate not only to find fault with, but intent on trying to turn others against her -- their ultimate sadistic goal being to taunt, disparage, discredit and even to destroy--
@Ann50, one can only begin to imagine just how long you've waited to use that word 'morose' here to describe a woman who has been nothing short of impeccable, supremely exemplary and almost superhuman in the disciplined, warm, and when circumstances have called for it - stoic manner in which she's consistently conducted herself. Even as she's faced a barrage of unrelenting assault and unspeakable dehumanization and unprovoked disrespect, hostility and belittling attacks on her person and family--- including from grudging, petty, condescending, spiteful spirits like you, emboldened only by your perceived security in your anonymity, as you freely take your cheap swipes--
Always on the look out for - and never one to pass up on any opportunity to sneer, insult and denigrate - a momentary expression captured in a still photograph as usual provides another gleeful chance to gnaw away--

Couldn't possibly have been jet lag -- Nah, not for Mrs Obama --
She's not even allowed to show the slightest bit of human exhaustion a day after arriving in Hawaii --- and to a time zone 5 hours behind that at home in Washington D.C-- Akin to flying into New York from London and expecting one to stay chirpy and burning bright at 6pm New York time - when the body clock is screaming 11pm London time -- In other words, long past bed time for any extremely disciplined early to bed, early riser like Mrs Obama--

Mrs Obama is not an actress and thankfully, does not deal in fake emotions -- nor is she playing a character, cutting and pasting only pretentious, PR vetted and impossibly perfect versions of a non-existent, imaginary hollow character, as if on a show. She does not run around being phony or cloyingly sweet and perky in a desperate bid to be liked--- She's consistently unpretentious--
One of the most refreshing things about this glorious, 21st Century modern First Lady is that even under this harshest and most unforgiving glare her family has found themselves, she remains genuine, lives her life as normally as possible, unencumbered by the overarching need to succumb to affectation, to become plastic, unfeeling, or phony -- This physically and psychologically healthy woman remains splendidly centered, maintaining her true self throughout this often harrowing and trying pilgrimage made for love and service.

She's done so with great dignity, integrity, honor, decency, discipline, wisdom, dynamism, grace and with the utmost respect for herself and others. Even as she is and lives so admirably, she however, clearly does not live for approval, nor is she playing to an audience -- she simply lives her authentic and best life--- Her calm normalcy and the sometimes look of slight amusement in her very expressive eyes, tells a story of a woman completely self-possessed --
She brings a marvelously healthy perspective to all this - and is determined to keep things in that perspective; and not only for herself and her family, but also for everyone else---

And heaven forbid you focus on the positively lovely, human and organic images like that of Mrs Obama's handsome little nephew giving his obviously exhausted but loving and attentive aunty a kiss:
http://ametia.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/oregon-state-vs-akron-college18.png?w=631&h=373

@Jamie: Cropped sweaters. Her style, her choice, her preference; Don't like it, avert your gaze; In other words, don't look--- "Women, wear what you like." - Mrs Obama.

May this New Year 2014, be for this perfectly complete, focused, grounded, clear-eyed, whip smart, disciplined, sweet, sincere, genuine, beautiful, healthy, and exquisite wife, mother, private citizen, the very best year yet --- May she be richly blessed, deeply fulfilled, and continue to make great strides, thrive, succeed, soar above and beyond her wildest dreams and that of those of us who greatly love, respect, admire and appreciate her---

May this principled, honorable, wise and intelligent woman of noble character, continue to be served well by her trademark integrity, decency, authenticity and respect for self and others--
A very safe, happy, healthy New Year to all people of goodwill -- May 2014 be a year of peace, joy and positive progress - personally, professionally and for our country and world;
For the unrepentant gnawers who intend to persist, may 2014 be filled with a myriad of personal distractions, that'll leave the gnawers too overwhelmed and without a spare moment to hound, troll, spit spite, or gnaw ---

Audrey.. lighten up. This site is to not to only admire the styles of our first lady but to also discuss. Maybe YOU should be the one to look away if you don't like the comments. I thought we were all free to discuss and admire and perhaps occasionally comment on a miss. Mrs. O looks fabulous 99.9% of the time.. there can be misses now and again. We can't discuss that? Are you now the blog police? Please dear.. try and follow your own advice.

Happy new year to you too Audrey, and thanks for this perfect comment. It pretty much sums up my thoughts and I'm quite certain, that of many others. The freedom to discuss another person (celebrity or not) on a public forum (without their permission no less), comes with limits, and a responsibility to do so respectfully and without mean-spiritedness or slander. If we are indeed having a discussion, I'm grateful that Audrey gets to have a say. She very much speaks for me. Who knew morose was now a fashion terminology? Anyway, be safe everyone and don't drink and drive tonight.

As usual Audrey, my sentiments exactly, how much I love our amazing once in a lifetime first lady. It’s such a pleasure to be on the same blog with people like you who write beautifully and describe Mrs. O to the “T” Yes there are enough words to express our deep appreciation for this Great Lady and historical moment in history – and the remarkable impact she has on so many lives (I had to get my dictionary : )

Your’e passionate about what you believe and I feel we have the right to speak our minds as others do whether it’s yea or nay. Eloquent, articulate and expressive. Maybe one day the bloggers will get a chance to meet in person…..
“She’s done so with great dignity, integrity, honor, decency, discipline, wisdom, dynamism, grace and with the utmost respect for herself and others.” In this sentence, you remind us of the great role model Mrs. O is and will always be, not only as a first lady but personality traits we should strive to be – especially in this changing world. Thanks Eleroy and Samantha excellent. What a great way to ring in the N.Y. and same to you.

Thank you Madame L'elle. This is supposed to be a fashion blog, not a fan club. The lengthy, frequently off-topic comments do nothing to promote the site and, quite frankly, make it less fun than it used to be. I thought the shorts were a miss for someone so in the public eye. It's a shame, but it's the reality of the 24/7 media coverage. I hope the Obama's are enjoying a relaxing and well-deserved vacation. (Lovin' the new People cover by the way - thank you to the editors for letting Mrs. Obama's beauty stand for itself!)

@LA, Kathie and Madame L'elle agree with you 100%. Audrey should be on a Michelle Obama fan club blog. The shorts do not look good on Mrs O and I don't see evidence of a toned body. Some of us don't like the cropped sweater look but that doesn't mean we don't love the woman who wears it! This is a FASHION BLOG.

Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 12:28 AM | Unregistered CommenterVa

Whoa, are you serious Eva? Calvin Coolidge declined to run again citing the hazardous toll the presidency takes on the wife and children of any president. Don't know if you're married, but if you are, you should seriously rethink your idea of love, marriage and what matters. For an always politics-wary Mrs O, it's never been about presidential salary or perks. It's apparent that she would trade all of that in a heartbeat to have her family to herself, take them and go about living what would still be a pretty good life, on their terms. You seriously don't think a $400,000 salary and perks is worth an iota of the hassle, or is all any wife really needs, do you? Seriously? There's much more to love, marriage, life and living, than material stuff you know. A wife's needs, and a husband being there just for you and the children without the many interferences and threats, no perk or salary could ever begin to compensate, substitute or make up for. Salary and perks as a trade-off for her husband? I think not. You should go research these perks you speak of. (Pesky fact: The Obamas earned more annual income before the presidency. They could comfortably afford and enjoy a similar lifestyle, without the intrusion, or nosy parkers tracking and questioning their every move). From your comment you seem to think of an annual 2 week vacation in Hawaii as a big deal. It isn't. Plenty of regular, non-presidential, middle class Americans take 2 week vacations to Hawaii and other far flung places. (You really should get out more.) Christmas in Hawaii has always been an annual Obama family tradition (long before the presidency, and will be for long after). Started when their daughters were still in diapers, and their great-grandma Madelyn Dunham was still alive. (Even I know that.) You told on yourself once you raised the "lengthy Hawaii vacation''. It's a funny thing how you guys show up armed with, and find ways to work in your nutty memes and innuendo, and then get all defensive and wonder why people question your motives. The real reason you flock to pollute blogs like Mrs O.org? It's kinda hard to imagine that you're a fan or interested in Mrs O's style for anything other than for ulterior motives, if you believe that the Obamas are undeservedly living it up with all these wild "lengthy Hawaiian vacations". (Implicit in your comment.) Guess I must be the crazy one for not grasping the concept of continuing to follow and anonymously berate a woman who has firmly established and irreversibly embraced her distinct preference for certain styles and clothing items, including those I don't like or approve of. I must be even crazier to assume that fashion buffs or not, sane people wouldn't waste a valuable second of their precious, busy lives following a woman they don't like or think highly of. Ha. Crazy me.

Perhaps the most important legacy Mrs. Obama may provide for us is a new level of comfort with body difference. Human beings come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and those differences are neither figure flaws or deformities to be camouflaged by fashion choices. The "pear shape" and so-called "sway back" have been the label applied to black girls and teenagers during so-called posture evaluations in gym classes for generations. Mrs. Obama's fashion choices may be the best thing happening to move this nation toward more comfort with difference and to boost the self esteem of women who have been beaten down with the figure flaw and deformity labels. Thank You Mrs. Obama! And Thank You Mrs. T for this website!!!!!

Kathie, I am delurking here, just so I can say "Here Here" to your comments (also LA's and L'elle's.). I would look morose too if I had just arrived in Hawaii and had to spend hours in a gym watching basketball teams I knew nothing about, instead of being in the glorious outdoors! I gave up commenting here many months ago, because of the stinging backlash that was directed not necessarily at myself, but against ANYBODY who made a comment that was deemed somehow detrimental. I too think this blog has suffered for it, and it kind of seems less people are engaging in commentary about the FASHIONS. Thanks to Mrs. T. for continuing on!

Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 5:16 PM | Registered CommenterSoccerNana

I agree about the bully's on this site who think they must police people's comments. If they really admire Mrs O so much you would think they would try to emulate her by conducting themselves in a classier manner. Please continue to comment babs, many of us enjoy honest critiques and differing points of views. The comments that go on and on and on with every imaginable word of praise are tiresome to read.

Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 5:17 PM | Registered CommenterSally

Haven't commented in forever either, but for the exact opposite reason offered by the previous two or three complainants. Quite a number of us left because of the offensive and abusive tone of the comments directed at the First Lady of the United States, all in the name of fashion critiquing. Funny how the same people who think it's all fun and games cyber-bullying the First Lady of the United States, are quick to cry foul when they aren't allowed to get away with their cyber-bullying. What's good for the goose, is good for the gander. If you want to dish it, you've got to be prepared to take it. The funniest thing is reading some of the gawdawful suggestions some of these self-appointed fashion experts cum critics here try to offer Mrs O. Who on earth looks at Mrs O's informal vacation sundress for instance and thinks, must add yellow blazer? Oy. (But we know that a lot of it is nothing but obligatory, pretend fashion commentary, before they sneak in their originally intended jab at the First Lady of the United States.)

Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 5:33 PM | Registered CommenterCamille

Maybe Mrs T can put forth rules for the blog. I guess now we can't even make a comment on maybe a yellow blazer would have looked nice with the dress. Somehow that is spun into "cyber bullying". Good grief.. I am finding myself wondering why in the world I registered to this blog. I THOUGHT it was to admire, discuss, suggest. I just adore most of the outfits Mrs. Obama wears but I am also realistic and I know that she is a woman, just like me and sometimes makes a fashion boo boo. She is a woman. Period. She is NOT a God like some here seem to think.

Thanks to those whose comments supported my right to have and express my opinions freely...and to those who went on such rabid attacks: perhaps I should have said she looked tired and unhappy (for what ever reason) rather than morose (though I think that's a more descriptive word). I, too, wish we could see more photos and comments centered on fashion.

"Sally" who can barely disguise her disdain for Mrs Obama is annoyed and finds positive posts about her tiresome. What a shocker! LOL. The vehemence over how positive and complimentary posts may in some way damage this blog is amusing. Who gets mad over positive posts except folks with an agenda. To hear them tell it, you'd think there was a shortage of websites or fashion blogs where anyone can have their say or preferably, rip into FLOTUS taking her down a peg or two. Those sites abound. They're a dime a dozen, and not one of those blogs have exactly blown up as a result. No doubt some of these folks like "Sally" have been there, done that. The problem they're always going to have at this place is that there are more of us than them. We may lurk, but we exist and we speak up. Happy new year folks and while we're at it, can we keep the Obama daughters entirely out of this. They're minors, for anyone who doesn't know. Tossing around recycled gossip about a 12 year old's weight, even if it's supposedly in defense of them, is crass.

Officer Lota, your quick action in responding to my post proves my point.I am not against Mrs O, I am just an advocate of diversity of thought. I do agree with you about the daughters though, only positive comments or no comments with regards to them and NEVER comments about weight. And my name really is "Sally" so no need for all the """"""""".

My post about Sasha was a positive one. I simply said she is blossoming into a beautiful young lady. I know she struggled with her weight, Mrs. O herself mentioned it on television! If Mrs. Obama can talk about it I guess I can too.

LOL. Not against Mrs Obama? You sure could have fooled us "Sally". Diversity of thought. Hmmmm, is that what they call that odd behavior these days? That strange thing that compels strange folk to obsessively track and post rude comments about a blog subject they don't like? "Madam L'elle", 12 year olds don't "struggle" with their weight and at no time did Mrs Obama ever suggest that her minor daughter did. As a prelude to her Let's Move initiative, she'd mentioned that their pediatrician noticed changes, called her attention to them and suggested a few lifestyle tweaks including tweaks to food choices. Relying less on the working mothers life-saver, convenience foods which are typically packed with sugar, salt and preservatives. The kids were already very active. At no time has she ever talked about struggles with weight, or weight in relation to beauty. She's always focused on overall health and the many ways unhealthy lifestyles including unhealthy and unbalanced meals can impede performance at school, sports and other areas of a child's life. Putting words in Mrs Obama's mouth to justify glib remarks is still crass. You're right about one thing though, Mrs Obama is not a God. She's a Goddess. Period.

You are correct Lota.. she never said Sasha struggled with her weight. That is my bad. My first post however was directed at people who DID make fun of her and I was happy to see this young lady looking so well and beautiful. As for the rest of your remarks. I really think you are just wound too tight.

Why are there never any new posts on this site anymore? This post is over two weeks old! This site used to be so awesome....

@chloe4ever This is the most recent post most likely because they are on vacation, and there are no photographs of that. We'll have to wait until they're back to D.C.
I don't know about anyone else, but I will continue to come to this site, and enjoy it, because of the First Lady's fashion choices. I do not care about the comments (I find them entertaining), all I care about is the fashion, the jewelry, the designers. And I truly hope even after this Presidents term is over, this site will still be here so I can go back through the archives and be wowed by all the amazing choices the First Lady has made. Like the white Tom Ford gown, or the red Alexander McQueen gown, or any of the numerous Michael Kors (My favorite designer) outfits she has worn over the past 6 years.

The gown she wore at the Kennedy Center Honors was stunning.

There were a couple of photos of her on vacation. I saw one of her with the President when they visited a military base and another of her in shorts with the family attending the basketball game.

I agree with that I will always come to this site to check out the latest fashion selections. Love the links to the dresses. I am a fan of ASOS because of this site. I love the Tracy Reese. Mrs O also wore several other great outfits during the vacation.
I was not a fan of the shorts:http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/first-lady-michelle-obama-and-her-daughter-sasha-arrive-to-news-photo/458918439
There were some other choices that would have been better, even Mrs O has regretted some of her choices when she has looked back at pictures. So she really is just like us. Thanks Mrs T. Looking forward to the next year of viewing and commenting.
