Mrs. O and Dr. B spoke to the National Governors Association this morning with a focus on their Joining Forces initiative to support military service members and their families. On the style front, Mrs. O wore a Rachel Roy washed rose and tweed dress, first seen in 2009 here.

Rachel Roy's two tone dress have always been my favourites when it comes to Mrs Obama's day wear.
Lovely! But please get those bangs trimmed! I loved the wispy look on her official portrait.
The blouse is a pretty color, and the lipstick goes with it perfectly, but oh DEAR! I'm afraid the first picture is pretty much the most unflattering I have ever seen of Mrs.O. I wouldn't have thought it possible to make her face look this thick and heavy. To my eye, the width of the curly portion of her hair, and the bangs hanging as low as they do, does not produce a flattering proportion for the lower part of her face. This might be an artifact of the angle of the photograph, or of the momentary shape of her face caused by the words she is saying at this exact moment, but, well, oh dear!
Beautiful dress -- I hope it means that spring is around the corner!
The floral blouse is pretty, but Ms O's bangs are way too long and the
eyeliner is too heavy.
I am a huge fan, but those bangs at this in these pics are too much. When they are worn that thick they make the highly intelligent and imaginative Mrs Obama look dull-witted.
HELLO EVERYONE!!!!! I am so glad to be back here. I have not posted in months but I have read almost everything and for sure I have seen all the exciting posts.
I understand the comments regarding the bangs but let me tell this. My hair is relaxed like like Mrs O and had grown to reach between my shoulder blades. After much thought I wanted to do something different and BANG!!!.....(pun intended!)...the bangs presented themselves on Mrs. O. I decided there and then that I would try bangs and my hairdresser agreed. Well a few weeks later my bangs are just like hers as they seem to be growing at a faster rate than the rest of my hair.............which by the way I cut to the same length. Now all my friends are calling me Michelle or Mrs. Obama....LOL!!! I am enjoying it while I can. I just need to grow about six inches and lose a few pounds. She does look gorgeous though...AS USUAL!!!! I love Mrs. O!!!!!
Bangs are a distraction from Mrs. O's beautiful face.

are you guys for real? if the worst thing you can say about the First Lady is her bangs are....then good for our country. get over yourselves..with this angular face stuff and all the negativity. really, if you cannot respect the First Lady, whether you agree or not, you should not post it. ridiculous!
I love that color on her, but I wish those long bangs would go, go ,go! They are hiding her beautiful face, and it looks like a helmet.
I really think we are better to focus on her skills, talent and caring than the length of her bangs. Her fashion sense and willingness to express it is alive and well.
I may be the odd one out here but I like Mrs O's long bangs and the soft waves - a huge change from the pulled back and up hairdo in the 2009 photograph when she wore the same dress, but it's a more youthful look - lovely.
Dee asks if we are for real. Somehow if we say something less than positive about MO's bangs we are generating negativity and being disrespectful and should get over ourselves. Not so. We are simply pointing out our observations. There is no harm in that as taste & style are very personal; not everyone is going to see a change in style the same way.
So I'm going to weigh in on the bangs. I'm of two minds. They're on trend & cute. No question that they make her look youthful and sassier. But if MO was not being facetious when she claimed they were a mid-life crisis, there may be something to that as they also hide her face. A high forehead has always been a sign of intelligence; however, as we age bangs are a nifty way of hiding lines. I've also noticed that, the new do tends to look more like a wig than her hair did before. Just sayin'.
Love how she shops her closet. Bangs need a trim.
I must be in the minority but this is the most flattering pic I've seen of her with those bangs.
As a naturally curly haired woman who has kept her hair curly throughout her life and raised a gorgeous daughter who never ever straightens her hair I would just LOVE for our first lady to embrace her natural beauty. Enough of the straightened hair. Some of us are not Chinese or Japanese. Some of us are African American and Jewish with beautiful; naturally curly hair. Please Mrs. Obama, for the sake of your daughters. Find your sisterhood.
I am so glad to see a groundswell of pleas to get those bangs taken care of. Even those of us who adore Michelle take a risk of being criticized ourselves when we caringly criticize her clothing or her hair. But we are almost getting a quorum here! Let's hope there is action at the White House on the hair so we once again can see her pretty face.

I think that it's a little unfair to have a fashion blog (brilliant and well maintained as it is - thanks Mrs T) and not expect anyone to comment on the First Lady's hairstyles. A persons features is the first thing that we see on meeting them and that persons hairstyle will change to suit their attire, so I for one think that her varied hairstyles are worthy of comment. Mrs O always exudes confidence and is a woman that is clearly comfortable in her own skin. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that is our basic human right and while I'm not a huge fan of her hairstyle in this particular picture, it doesn't mean that I'm being disrespectful of her position or like her any less
I enjoy this website although I dont comment often. I have the impression that some photos have not been included - eg Mrs O's outfits for Lets Move relaunch in Chicago. Perhaps Im wrong??

Sorry Mrs T, but I fail to see how subjecting Mrs Obama to these belittling comments from random people too chicken to even register on this site, elevates the conversation. It still obviously remains a place for some to come and dump on Mrs Obama without any repercussions.
And no, prefacing the rude and insulting comments with some gratuituous declaration of love for her or a bit of hollow flattery isn't fooling anyone.

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama doesn't have to "find" anyting she hasn't lost. Malia and Natasha (Sasha) Obama are very well taken care of, and it didn't just begin when they moved to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
OAN: Malia Obama styled her hair in two-strand twists (just like their "Mama-Kay") for months in 2009. Mrs O has worn her hair natural during high school and college.

Mrs. T., I've been following and posting on your blog from it's inception, but
over the last year I have refrained from doing so mainly because I noticed a trend that was emerging in which the comments directed at the First Lady were becoming more personal, negative, and insulting. These comments were given with little, if any, context, imagination, usefulness, creativity, instruction, and knowledge. Yet they were allowed to be published under the guise of "opinion" or "freedon of speech" or some such token euphemisms. But instead of generating insightful and learned discussion on the mer it of the observation, they resulted in heated arguments between the defenders/fans and detractors of the First Lady. I've felt from the beginning that many who post their comments on this site do not know or have never learned the difference between critique and criticism. One is positive, the other is downright negative and insulting. The point is, if you don't like a belt, haircut, cardigan, heel height or dress, you can elegantly critique it without personally criticizing the First Lady and calling into question her intelligence, sense of self, her autonomy, her freedom of choice, her right to her own decisions, her independence, her looks and appearance. Two years ago the ongoing refrain was the endless complaints and her belts. Some disagreed with her choices and instead of taking the position of "to each his own", these self-appointed fashion mavens took off after Michelle Obama and repeatedly came here to vent on how much they didn't like her wearing those belts and how offensive it was to them for her to continue doing so. When others tried to point out that the belts were her fashion choices and that she in no way was saying that others should copy her style should they disagree, that wasn't enough to quell the phony outrage. Instead, they were persistent in pointing out that the First Lady should cease and desist in offending them with her repeated choice of wearing the offending belts, and when she chose not to comply, they felt it was their constitutional right to insult, denegrate, ridicule, and question her intelligence. All this because she had the audacity to wear belts that some didn't like. Now, it's like deja vu all over again, but this time it's her bangs. I must say I never thought I would see the day when grown people would go off the deep end because a first lady chooses to wear belts, cardigans, or her bangs in a way they don't like. Then it's not good enough to agree to disagree with the her choices, no, instead they choose to use the anonymity of this blog to attempt to tear her apart because she dared to disobey their edicts. How stupid, ridiculous, infantile, and just play insane for anyone to think that by continuously attempting to denigrate and ridicule this woman you are going to get her to comply with your demands! I realize that there may be those who don't see anything wrong with that attitude, but some of us do, and if for some reason Mrs. T. chooses to allow that level of base commentary to slip through her filters, well, you better believe there's going to be heated reactions to those comments and then we are off to the races with the back and forth. At the end of the day, this blog is supposed to be about the First Lady's style and fashion, so if you routinely do not agree with her style or fashion choices, WHY ARE YOU VISITING THIS BLOG? Are you a glutton for punishment or you just want to vent your hostility towards this Fist Lady and think and you can best get away with it by disguising it as "objective fashion critique"? Oh come on now, if that's your intent, well, you are not fooling anybody but yourself. And oh, by the way, after you've tried to tear her down, there's no need to hypocritically add on to your comments how much you "admire and like the First Lady but...", because I can guarantee that you do not talk to or treat your girl friends in that manner because if you did, you won't have many left. So in all reality I think the solution to this ongoing problem is a more stringent screening of postings, if not, the quality of this blog will degenerate like many others and force many supporters to go elsewhere while the trolls, detractors and plain haters take over. I wonder if this explains why so many of the original and early posters are not seen here as before. Now, those posters (female as well as male) knew how to bring substance to this blog, they knew fashion and style and were eloquent in their commentary. Even when you disagreed with their opinion you came away from the discussion with some grain of knowledge you lack prior to the exchange. Such is not the case today, and it's a pity.
