Spring Mix

The First Lady attended a pre-Easter celebration wtih military families and children at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in Bethesda, Maryland today. For the occasion, Mrs. O wore a mix of purple hues, pairing a printed, pleat skirt with a sweater set. A belt at the waist, strand of pearls and light purple flats completed the Spring look. The sweater set appears to be the J.Crew Collection featherweight shell and cardigan in bright plum, available here.

I am in love with that skirt and those ballet flats! My feet are forever indebted to Mrs O for making flats cool and sexy.

Here's a very nice close-up from the same event taken by an obviously superior, thoughtful and serious photographer doing what excellent photographers do: capturing and presenting their subject in the best light:

Credits say Terri Moon Cronk. (Thank you Terri!)
It really irks me that some of the photographers out there deliberately put out some not so great pictures they take of Mrs Obama. I find that to be especially true for Associated Press photographers such as some Susan Walsh woman who took and released some of the oddest angled photos from this particular event (the sort of bad shots good photographers discard - but USAToday picked and used that one anyway.); and the people at Zimbio/Getty are as guilty a lot of the time too. I suppose that's because they tend to use the same photographers and buy and circulate the same shots.
Photographers get lots of pictures and it's sad that some go out of their way to circulate the worst of their captures. I think the photographers don't realize they are hurting not their subjects but themselves. Who wants to hire a professional photographer that does such an awful job except of course the tabloids?
I miss Samantha Appleton, she always took amazing photos of Mrs Obama that not only looked fantastic, but also told important stories.
I think Chuck Kennedy does her a terrible disservice and to a great extent, so does Pete Souza the president's photographer. Pete Souza is so focused on creating impressive pictures of his boss President Obama, but doesn't care to exercise or extend the same thought and consideration for the President's wife on the rare occasion when he does photograph her.
Mrs Obama ought to chuck Chuck Kennedy and nab Terri Moon Cronk.
I did do a google search and I think Terri Moon Cronk works for the Defense Department? Whoever he/she is does an excellent job of telling stories with their photos while capturing her/his subject beautifully.
Terri Monk Crook also took some photos last year at the same event, including this one:

Here's another close-up picture also taken by Terri Moon Crook at this event. It shows the rich pinks and brilliant details of the lovely pleated skirt Mrs O is wearing; And surprise! If you zoom in, you'll find she's actually wearing her go to, good old faithful royal blue belt she's worn for years now!:

I really love those colors! Hmmm, maybe I have my Easter Weekend color palette now.
@ Audrey, thanks for those links; however, the DoD one didn't work for me.

Thanks for the pictures. I love the skirt. It emphasizes how tall she is. The skirt is beautiful.

That is a sumptuous skirt; thanks for the link to the close-up photo, Audrey. The first lady looks so pretty in jewel tones.

Pretty colors. Does anyone know where Mrs. O gets the totally cropped cardigans? The J Crew site does not show this cardi as cropped. I have been looking for one for almost 2 years!

Hey @ SoccerNana, sorry it didn't work. Should have tried it after I copied and pasted it. Did the first one work for you?
Try this again:

Very pretty, striking outfit. . I absolutely love the color of the cardigan she is wearing. The skirt is pretty as well. I have never seen her wear this outfit before .It must be new. IMO, what really finished the look was the pearls. Great choice for a necklace to wear with the outfit.

I love this outfit...the colors certainly say Spring and Easter. Did you all see that Britain’s Sunday Times Style Magazine has ranked our FLOTUS at the top of its best-dressed list? Please click here to see the article and the picture they created to depict FLOTUS as the 'queen' of fashion. I like the sentiment of the postage stamp picture but it's not the best profile picture they could have used for that Photoshop creation :) :(

Mrs. T something is definitely going on with the site. It has created a duplicate comment the last three times I've posted. I see it happening to some other people too. It obviously is not happening to everyone, but it is happening more and more often. I can only say that it seems to stall and take a long time to create the post after I have reviewed it and tested my hyperlink to make sure it is working before I confirm the post. In the past when I've done this, I always got an immediate confirmation. But lately it stalls before confirming and duplicates my entry. The site master might want to investigate.

Nice outfit, however, I don't like the 'A-line' skirts on Mrs. O.

Mrs. Obama wears sweater sets so well. I have not had much luck but I do like cardigans. Do you have any tips?

I LOVE FLOTUS and 99% of what she wears. I am not a big fan of the flat shoes though.

@ Juju - I don't think it's cropped. If you look carefully, I think you'll see that it's tucked into the waist.

You're welcome @suze!
Hey everyone:
If you're not a subscriber, don't forget to pick up your copies of Vogue magazine on stands March 26th! And buy a couple of extra copies as gifts for friends and family at home and abroad. That's exactly what I plan to do.
Count down to Tuesday!
Can't wait!
P.S: And if you've got a couple of extra dollars, do buy a subscription to Vogue. These great publications could always use your support. Do it for yourself. Do it for country. Do it in support of a very important industry and for our economy!

Audrey, I so agree with you about people purposefully publishing the worse pics of FLOTUS. I've noticed it for years and this pic is one the many proofs. I understand Mrs T runs the site on a small budget and probably can't afford to but thebette pics, but the photogs who capture Mrs O seem to be doing it on purpose. I always prefer the photos on The Obama Diary because Chipsticks seems to get good ones.

Love it! Purple is the best color.

I am impressed with the pattern of the skirt, especially given that the skirt seems to micro pleated. Our Michelle knows her body, not all of us would venture pleats.
Love the colors!
