Summer Floral

The President and First Lady traveled to Orlando, Florida yesterday to speak at the Disabled American Veterans convention before heading to their vacation in Martha's Vineyard. For her speaking engagement, Mrs. O wore a sunny, summery white and yellow floral print dress paired with a white patent leather belt and camel kitten heels. Walking across the South Lawn, Mrs. O clutched a camel handbag and orange cardigan to complete the look.

Update: Thanks to readers who helped to spot the dress, the Rose-Print Dress from Talbots, available here.

Talbot dress, $69-

http://www.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?id=prdi30767&mode=search&prdi30767_selectedColor=4992&prdi30767_userAction=colorSwapSelection§ion=Sale&prdi30767_colorIndicator=saleColor&backurl=%2Fonline%2Fsearch%2FsearchResults.jsp%3Fquestion%3Dyellow%2Band%2Bwhite%2Bdress%26trail%3D%26pageNum%3D0%26addFacet%3DSRCH%253Ayellow%2Band%2Bwhite%2Bdress%26removeFacet%3D

Completely intriguing and enchanting woman who still delights even in a $69 off the rack basic Talbot dress--

If anyone ever doubted that this very uncontrived and exquisitely genuine woman, wife, mother and First Lady primarily dresses for herself -- and for her husband, all one has to do is look at his face--
That's the certain look of a man absolutely thrilled and completely captivated by his wife and terrific mother to their kids-

And after all's said and done, that's all that really matters--

That colour combination is truly amazing. I love it. Its a shame that we don't have Talbots in the UK, though.

beautiful dress; handsome couple!

Very pretty. I'm intrigued at the similarity to the Rachel Roy Mrs. O wore just recently. Why get two dresses that are so alike? Perhaps they are more different than they photograph. The color of the cardigan is unexpected, but it looks like it works.

Does anyone have an idea about what handbag that is?

Her bag looks slightly similar to Dooney's Janine Satchel, but from the view in the photo, I cannot confirm. I love it nonetheless. Love, Love FLOTUS!

Ideal summer dress….fresh bright colours. Adding her necklace certainly does transform a basic dress style - looking more sophisticated and classic.

Love her facial expressions and body language when they're together and the President looks at her with so much love and cute smile on his face.

The belt really makes the dress stand out! So pretty! Her hair is very pretty as well. A pretty summer outfit! I think our President agrees-smile!

I got a glimpse of an outfit Mrs. O wore to Dinner Sunday night. A sleeveless, red top and tan pants.

There's a photo at http://theobamadiary.com/, near the middle of the page.

This is upsetting. I think I can appreciate a little bit of what Vivienne Westwood was trying to say. Mrs Obama is a very pretty and attractive woman with a great body and an enviable model height. As First Lady of the United States, she should have at her disposal the very best wardrobe consultant(s) and hairdresser(s) charged with meticulously putting together flawless looks for her public events. Everything from how the clothes (and hairstyles) fit, look and photograph, to how she looks boarding and getting off a plane, should be carefully considered in picking outfits and styles for public events. This can be achieved with some of the reasonably-priced off-the-rack dresses she sometimes prefers, but the right pieces nevertheless. This Talbots dress is too short and the armholes and awkwardly cut and dipped lower-cut back make it look cheap and ill-fitting. The proportions are off for a woman her height. There are many other reasonably-priced sundresses out there that would have achieved a better look. The Talbots dress could have been altered as she's previously done with some of her clothes, with the hemline dropped/lengthened to fit her tall 5'11 height and proportions. She always had full, healthy hair, but I think her current hairdresser has not done a good job of properly maintaining her healthy locks and so we've recently seen bald patches (hair loss) at her hairline from over-stressing. No great or conscientious hairdresser would ever allow that. The hairdresser has also failed to find his most important client a flattering, easy to maintain hairstyle she can put together herself when she's not travelling with a styling team. It's time to do away with the mediocre stylist and hairdresser and get our First lady the superior, first class quality professionals her position and image as a prominent and beloved world figure calls for. As much as Americans moan about cost, people still expect their first lady to be perfectly coiffed and flawlessly dressed. They also tend to respond better to and appreciate a well put together and finished look.

Mrs. O will be in the August 18, 2013 Parade Magazine.

Looks like they "chopped" some of her neck length off to make this picture fit within a certain range.

I like Mrs O a lot, but I think I get a teeny bit of what the very rude Vivienne Westwood was clumsily trying to say. Mrs Obama is a very pretty and attractive woman with a great body and an enviable model height. As First Lady of the United States, she should have at her disposal the very best wardrobe consultant(s) and hairdresser(s) charged with meticulously putting together flawless looks for her public events. In my opinion, everything from how the clothes (and hairstyles) fit, look and photograph, to how she looks boarding and getting off a plane, should be carefully considered in picking outfits and styles for public events. This can be achieved too with some of the reasonably-priced off-the-rack dresses she sometimes wears in support of other affordable American retailers. The Talbots dress is too short I'm afraid, and the armholes and awkwardly cut, dipped lower-cut back make it look cheap and not as nicely fitting and hanging. The proportions are off for a woman her height. There are low-priced sundresses that could definitely achieve the right look. This Talbots dress could have been altered as she's previously done with some of her clothes with the hemline dropped/lengthened to fit her tall 5'11 height and proportions. She always had healthy, full hair, but I think her current hairdresser has not done well in properly maintaining her healthy locks and so we've seen of late, bald patches (hair loss) at her hairline. Not the mark of a conscientious or great hairdresser. In my opinion, the hairdresser has to find his most important client, easy to maintain flattering hairstyles she can put together herself when she's not travelling with a styling team. It's time to do away with the mediocre stylist and hairdresser and get our First lady the superior, first class quality professionals her position and image as a prominent and beloved world figure calls for. Americans may moan and groan about cost, but people still desire and expect their first lady to be perfectly coiffed and flawlessly dressed at all times. The whiny citizens also tend to respond better to and appreciate a well put together and finished look.

Who are these self appointed experts who offer such detailed criticism? It's tiresome to read. I guess I just won't any more. Thanks, Mrs. T. for keeping us up to date on all of the looks....it's great fun to see the first family in many different settings!

I totally agree that Mrs. Obama looks lovely.

Let the unhappy naysayers continue to incessantly whine. It took what, all of five days to compose a dig in support of the trolls?

I love her in this dress, her hair is lovely and she looks perfectly groomed. No matter where she sources her clothes someone will complain that she's either spending too much or too little. I respect the fact that we are all entitled to our opinion, but looking at still shots of clothes don't always translate how well they may look. I think that having to look and be perfect every day would put enormous pressure on anyone, when all you may want to do is curl up at home with your husband! It's the woman that makes the clothes, not the clothes the woman 😊

I don't know why my previous comment on the yellow dress did not post..anyway, she looks lovely in the magenta sleeveless dress on the cover of Parade Magazine today.

Looks like it might be a Michael Kors?

The picture on the Green Room couch looks horribly photo shopped. Nobody's arms are that skinny. It's so unflattering!

Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 8:43 PM | Registered CommenterKathie

@ Kathie . . . Denise Richards? Angelina Jolie? two ladies that quickly come to mind with slim arms that I've seen and appear much, much slimmer than those in the picture of Mrs. Obama. Probably are many more as well.

I like her bag!
And the peach cardigan is a nice complement to her dress.

Mrs. Obama looks splendid! Like an beautiful and luscious lemon meringue pie--with a graham cracker crust, of course! Color, pattern, cut, texture, proportion, it's all there. ...For those that cannot see it, I suspect it is because they don't want to see it. ...Well done (again!), Mrs. Obama.

P.S. I need more pictures from the Vineyard. I'm having withdrawal "symptoms"--until I can make it to the island myself, for some R&R.

Oh please Fiona, Mrs. Obama is about so much more then being "flawless" every moment. I know she loves clothes, but there are other things in her life that she cares about more. We admire the work she does in so many areas. No, she isn't Nancy Regan, who WAS always flawless, but our country is no longer wanting a First Lady who spends her time just looking after herself. This first lady has a busy life and I think she looks wonderful!

@Fern Gullie and Adear: Thanks for the props. Had me kinda blushing. (And I thought I was too "old" for that. Guess not.) ...I wouldn't say I'm "the life of the party," but I have been known to "work a crowd" every now and again. ;-)
