A Fond Farewell

Dear Readers,

After much thought and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to end the Mrs. O blog. Over the past year, my personal and professional circumstances have changed such that I cannot devote the same time and attention to the blog that I once could. I continue to have the utmost admiration for Mrs. Obama - for her style and so much more.

From an idea sparked by Michelle Obama's presence at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, we grew into a vibrant, diverse community with a common interest. The information sharing and exchange of opinions over the past 5-1/2 years has been fun, inspiring, sometimes a bit controversial - but always in the spirit of good, open dialogue. Thank you all for your support and readership over the years.

Wishing you the very best,

Mrs. T

Sorry to see the blog go but I wish you all the best Mrs. T, you have done a yeoman's job these many years and please know that it is greatly appreciated. All the best in the future. And best wishes to all the devoted Mrs. O fans.

If the blog was still on, tonight's entry might read a little something like this (with all due respect, Mrs. T):

Michelle, Our Belle
For the first State Dinner of President Obama’s second term, Mrs. O pulls all the stops. She stuns in an exquisite gown with scalloped black lace décolletage and (Gasp!) three-quarter sleeves, over a light blue underlay and full skirt by Carolina Herrera. A black velvet belt and glittering drop earrings complete this elegant look. No wonder French President Hollande looks smitten! Sorry Monsieur le Président, our Belle Michelle’s heart belongs to Mr. O!

This is such sad news, but I understand. Life happens. I thank you so much Mrs. T for this blog. It was quite the constant in my life pretty much from its beginning. Every now and then I will pull your book of her off my the bookshelf and flip through its colorful pages. You managed to capture the essence of our First Lady like no other blogger. You set the gold standard in First Lady coverage. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the many personalities that gave this blog life with opinions and dialogue that ran the gamut. Mrs. O has captivated the world and this blog surely has had an impact as a conduit. As a Southern-black-gay man with my own off kilter style, Mrs. O aura and finesse has held my attention for many years. And this was the place I would come to connect. I will miss this blog dearly. Farewell Mrs. T...

I've been dropping in over the past few years. If you want to hand the blog over or recruit some contributors to keep it alive, I think that would be successful. I would apply to help you. This was the first blog I looked up this morning to find out about what she wore at last night's state dinner for France.

Although I'm sad to see the end of your blog, I am grateful for the time you spent creating this site. It was my go-to place to see the First Lady’s latest fashion, (which is why I'm here today...02/12/14). :-)
I wish you much joy in your future pursuits. Should you decide to resurrect the blog, I'll be one of the first here!

Take care!

Thanks for your classy, respectful coverage of our first lady over the years! I wish you the best of positive karma in your personal and professional life!

I am bitter-sweetly reading the comments to this farewell and I have not been able to stop smiling! It's sooooo good to see and remember some of the "old school" posters: Nyon (Little One), Groovy, Bevi, Posh Tater, Trinisamba, Jestina, Fern Gullie, Operafanatic, Avi, Marcus Perry, Ladywatcher, BSewing Lady, Mom in Mi, MiMom, and so many others. I know that I'm leaving out a bunch of folks, I apologize. As my grandmother would say, "charge it to my head not my heart".
This blog has gotten me through some good days and some really dark ones. It runs the gamut from the birth of my great niece and nephews to the cancer scares and subsequent treatment to caring for an ailing mother. My mom was not computer savvy but when she'd come over to my house or when we'd visit family members home, I'd bring this site up and she'd get the biggest kick out of it. When she was bed-ridden, I'd let her look on my tablet and she thought that was neat! She was a product of the segregated south and had (and still have)family members at 16th St Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama so seeing a black president and such a regal First Lady was such a source of pride for her. Sadly, I lost my mom last month, on the 2nd of January, and I miss her more than words can say. But, I can say that this site brought joy to her and for that I want to say THANK YOU ! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
From the bottom of my heart, I will miss you all! Take care!

I am so sad! You did such a wonderful job building this community! While I only commented a couple of times, I often checked your blog for a break from the too-often bleak news of the world. I also used this as a reference tool when looking for a particular dress/look of Mrs. O's. Great job and I hope your future is as fruitful as your work here was. :-) <3 from Austin, TX.

CID, I'm so sorry about your mother's passing. She was lucky to have you taking care of her and I can imagine her reading this blog and enjoying it. It is so nice to see the names of my old friends, Nyon (I have wondered about you since it has been so long since I have seen your name), OpFan, Bevi, and others. We all still love Mrs. O and Mrs. T, and will miss this blog! That dress last night was beautiful, and it made me sad to know I would not have a new post describing it for me. Take care everybody!
