Colorado Chic

Image by John Moore / Getty Images

First Lady Mrs. O was in Denver, Colorado today to meet with high school students, as part of the ongoing White House leadership and mentoring initiative.

We know Mrs. O's penchant for belts has many regular readers of this blog divided. But like the trend or not, Mrs. O is most certainly having a belt moment (perhaps complemented by an updo moment too). For today's appearance, Mrs. O paired an argyle cardigan with black trousers, cinched at the waist by a neutral leather belt. A stack of beaded bracelets completed the look.

Update #1: Thanks to those who have pointed out that earlier in the day, Mrs. O paired her argyle cardigan with a coordinating skirt. See more at the Huffington Post.

Update #2: Mrs. O wears a cardigan from Moschino's Fall/Winter 2010 collection.

Stylish Strokes

First Lady Mrs. O visited the Department of Energy today, hosting a practice session for young people participating in the National Science Bowl.

We are loving Mrs. O's black and white Moschino jacket with Chanel-inspired lines and painted accents. A black and silver diamante bow pin, seen here, accessorizes Mrs. O's left faux pocket. What a timely choice considering the Washington Post ran an article by Robin Givhan on Mrs. O's favor for Moschino just this morning.

The Moschino brush stroke wool-blend jacket is available on Net-A-Porter, here (thanks Posh, Ari and jestina).

Must Read: Mrs. O's Moschino

Click here for today's Washington Post article, which includes an interview with designer Rossella Jardini. Both Rossella Jardini and Robin Givhan were interviewed for Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy, so we found it of particular interest to hear their combined perspectives on our favorite subject - Mrs. O's style.

From the article: "It's a bit difficult to handle the situation because you don't want to push it," Jardini says. "That would seem indelicate."

Official White House Photo by Pete Souza

Thanks Nyon, for directing us to this new photo of the President and First Lady, taken Thursday, October 29. Pictured with the first couple is MacKenzie Clare and other Girl Scouts, who were invited to the White House as President O signed the Girl Scouts USA Centennial Commemorative Coin Act.

For the occasion Mrs. O was dressed in a medley of blue and green, pairing a cobalt blue sheath dress with a jade green cardigan. A Moschino brooch accessorized the look.

An Oldie But Goodie

Michelle Obama Gator Chomps

Image used with kind permission from Flickr user The Big Reveal

This time last year Mrs. O was hard at work on the campaign trail, traveling the country in support of her husband's campaign. The photo above captures our future first lady at a University of Florida rally, embracing school spirit with the Gator chomp. How quickly time has flown by!

Well, we thought of this image specifically, because it was just last week that Mrs. O wore a similarly printed jacket and skirt from Moschino in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. And indeed, the patterned floral skirt above is Moschino too.

A bit of fun until Mrs. O's next appearance!
