Mrs. O in the Bronx

Image by Timothy A. Clary / Getty Images

First Lady Mrs. O and and Dr. Jill Biden have been in the Bronx this afternoon, visiting the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. They're expected to attend Game 1 of the 2009 World Series this evening, which will be dedicated to military heros.

Mrs. O is wearing a patterned blouse in autumnal hues, paired with black pants, while Dr. B is dressed in All-American classics. We imagine they'll change for the game?

Update: Ari, you're our hero today! Ari has confirmed that Mrs. O wears a blouse by Peter Pilotto, from the desingner's Fall 2009 collection, seen here.

Hardly see Mrs. O in pants! Also, think they might be brown?

LOVE Dr. Biden and wish we saw more of her/them together. She seems so normal.

PS - congrats on the book. Dropped MAJOR hints to the bf for Christmas, but if he doesn't come through I will be purchasing it shortly after :)

I don't like the blouse Mrs. Obama is wearing and unfortunate her hair style is not very flattering in this photo. However, I do love her make up and pants. Jill Biden hair style looks cute in the photo but her clothing choice looks sort of dated.

They both look lovely. I'm so proud of our two first families. Dr. Biden doesn't get enough recognition for all her accomplishments and her delightful fashion sense. She's a great role model for women her age. She's sexy, fashionable, vibrant, smart as a whip. Love me some FLOTUS and SLOTUS!

I'm loving the autumnal colours on Michelle and the classic look on Jill. Both ladies look lovely. Michelle could have been a hand model, she has long elegant fingers and her manicure is always on point.

I think Dr. Biden got it just right. Classics are always "in." Don't care for the busy print in Mrs. O.'s blouse, but I think her hair looks great.

@ Tia23
Well it just goes to show you how varied opinions can be. I actually think the complete opposite. I think Mrs.O's blouse is cute and the colors are very autumnal and flattering. Her hair almost looks pulled back in this photo so we can see her face better, which I like and Dr. Jill Biden's outfit is cute in an Amrerican classic way. As for her hair, I think it's a little too feathery, almost Farah Fawcett like but too much so. However, while the two of them seem to have great chemistry together it looks like their both dressed for two different events.
I wonder if they will be wearing jerseys or caps at the game tonight? Mrs.O for the Yankees and Dr. B for the Phillies? That would be too cute.

Love Mrs. O's shirt. Very rich in its color and patterns, but it is not distracting at all. I'm generally not one who favors golden fall colors for Mrs. O but on this occasion it works really well! The brown-orange undertones are balanced by some cool ones-pink, black and white-which makes it very flattering. The fabric also seems soft, with a nice drape. It's a rare find. Any idea where it's from?
Mrs. Biden is always dressed nicely, too, yet she is definitely not a fashion icon. I'm with Ari on hair-it's outdated and Farah Fawcett-y. Doesn't bring out the best in this otherwise very beautiful woman. She should definitely update her 'do. A bob would look real nice on her.

Oh and check out this article in the New York Times Magazine. The Obama's talk about their marriage and life at the White House together. The Huffington Post highlights a few interesting parts here and the whole NYTimes article is here

I agree with Ari on all the points she makes. Love Mrs O's top and look forward to seeing a full length pic of the outfit in total. They really work well together, these two ladies, I wish we saw more of them out and about with each other. I guess they can cover more ground separately.

Finally...phew...i never thought it could happen...but I finally see one outfit on Mrs. O that I hate...lol. That shirt is too busy for me. But I still heart Mrs. O.

Like Mrs. O's look, except for the lip liner. Mrs. Biden looks like a WASPY Farrah :). I actually like her look, and I like the blouse - I'd wear them. Don't like the sweater over her shoulders like that - way too eighties.

I don't hate the shirt, but I defintely don't love it either. I am not a fan of that black collar. Yet and still, I can overlook the blouse because its Mrs. O ;-)

Sorry about your dinner Charlene, but Little Caesars is pretty tasty.

Doesn't Jill Biden look way younger than her age? It must be good Genes!

I'd love a closer look at Mrs. O's blouse. I'm sure there are details we can't see in this photo.

One of the pix accompanying that fab NYT Sunday mag piece on the Obamas has given me a little more appreciation for the dress Mrs. O wore in Pittsburgh. In the close-up photo, I can see how beautiful the print & construction is and imagine how lovely it must feel to wear it

Although not a fan of the blouse...she did it right...no major jewelry and no hair in the face-PERFECT. She let the blouse be the focal point...and it was. Her eye makeup GREAT...her lips...a little too well...1984 lip linerish... Dr. Jill well, honestly I have always loved that preppy, clean cut look...and she wears it well. Some of her choices are worth following...I wish we saw more of her as well...But overall The FLOTUS and SLOTUS represented well....as they always do...

Hey, I think Mrs.O's top is by the London based line Peter Pilotto. I found a dress in a print that looks very much like the top she's wearing here .
I also found a profile on the design duo behind the clothing line here

@Ari...nice sleuthing! I think you're right about the shirt...

Thanks for that link, Ari! You can see an enlargement of the piece there.

Here's link to his Spring/Summer 10 collection shown recently:

Fantastic! It must be what's being called a "digital" print, which is a new fabric-printing technique being led by several young British designers (and, not so young, but fabulously done in Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 10 collection). I think it's one of the more exciting new trends right now.

One of my favorite examples of this is Mary Katrantzou. She just showed her second collection:

Her first runway collection last February was outstanding.
