Styling Mrs. O

We normally do not go for this sort of thing, but Closet Couture has a fun, new contest that's absolutely worth a peek: the Michelle Obama Styling Contest. You're armed with a virtual J.Crew wardrobe that can be dragged and dropped to create a look bespoke for the first lady. The Closet Couture editors will select a winner next week, who will then receive a $150 gift card from J.Crew. We just gave it a whirl (see resulting ensemble above). How did we do? We would love to see what you put together for Mrs. O too!

Update: We're excited to add that Closet Couture will be giving away a copy of Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy as a runner-up prize in the contest. Check it out here.

Nice try, but i dubt Mrs. O would wear those shoes. She only wears skinny heels, whether kitten or otherwise. Maybe yes on the blouse and skirt for her. But I doubt she would do the three items on the left.

Once you save the outfit, I believe it creates a unique URL that you could copy and paste here. Here's another look (not mine) that I found as Closet Couture:

Saw you on TV, Mrs. T. It looks like <u>you</u>!!

Great colors but I am a bit troubled about the tiered ruffled blouse and the ruffling around the jacket neckline and down the front.

Mrs. O is a lot bigger than you are.

I had a pair of gray suede shoes many years ago. Looked like the USS Enterprise.

This "game" is making me think exactly what was intended -- how much my wardrobe would be improved with some items from J.Crew. Curse you, J.Crew!!!! :-)

Mrs. O would not wear this, you forgot the belt. LOL (just kidding everyone)

Now, this is what I call fun ! I sure hope someone on this site wins...that would surely be bragging rights for "our little thing". Come on guys, let's do this and get back on track with the reason Mrs. T started this site ...."share enthusiasm for the budding style icon Mrs. O's".

BeeGee, I think you may be right about channeling my own style a bit here! I would definitely wear this ... but I can also imagine Mrs. O going for the skirt or jacket at the very least.

Pictures up on yahoo of tonight's event about astronomy. Mrs. O looks lovely as usual. I like her pants and the layer of long sleeve tees, with a smart jacket.

Pics of the astronomy event are up on yahoo. I like Mrs. O's pants and flats she is wearing. Also the layered long sleeve tees with a smart jacket are perfect for fall.

Saw the astronomy pics. Mrs. O has on my favorite jacket. I really like that jacket on her in all the different colors that she owns it in, but not a fan of how she is wearing it now with the multiple layers. All those folded sleeves are a bit much for me. Has Malia got on her Mom's sneakers or does she own the same pair?

Love the pants and the flats though. Very classy.

Oh and POTUS' casual look is great. Are those Jeans he has on? Hooray for him getting a fashionable pair of Jeans instead of the Grandpa ones.

About Crew:

I snagged some sale items from them a few weeks ago and what a disappointment! Ordered a dress that looked white on their site, and it arrived looking more pink and with the fabric combination looked more like a nightgown.

The jacket was too big and lacked shape. The dress was the only saving grace but wasn't worth what I paid for it. Since they were all on sale, they are not returnable either, by JCREW policy. What a waste of $250!

I am still very disappointed and will now only buy in store.

@ Evangeline
I posted the link finally

Not something I would wear, because of the kind of florals in the skirt. But Mrs. O likes certain kind of florals and I think these would be right in that category.

Oh no, ladies... looks like the comments here don't take heavy HTML so we can't post the actual images like Ashley tried to above.

Tell you what... if you guys post your URLs for your outfits, I'll collect all the images into a blog post and share here in the comments so we can all see everyone's loooovely styling of First Lady O.

Sound good?

Here's one I made... http://www.closetcouture.com/images/20304/viewimage/

Original Mrs. A,
I think you nailed it! That's very Mrs. O!

Yeah.. its a nice look. but maybe the shirt and jacket both have too much going on together. :)

Mrs T I liked your look very much, especially the ruffles. Mrs O likes her ruffles. The top in particular I really could see on her. Colourwise and stylewise. The skirt is yummy.

Ashley I liked your first picks - that blue top is beautiful! I also liked the skirt with the Smythe puff sleeve jacket. The graphic print dress is nice too.

Alyson - LOVED the Theory dress.

My favourite so far is Jaime's. That's exactly the kind of jump with colours that MO does so well. The jacket is to die for.

I think i saw Ashley's and it was nice. The one on this I think is too much going on at one time

I agree with the original Mrs.A. Shoes are kinda frumpy and definitely not fierce enough for Mrs. O--no chunky heels for her! But she looks great in that gold color..(remembering that dress a few pics back...Nice!)

@ Sandy Beach,

Thank you! :)=

All the skirt options are wrong for Michelle. Both J. Crew skirts she wore prominently (on Letterman during the campaign and in England) were wrong -- too short and boxy for her shape. She needs more fluidity.
