Lady in Red

Image by Rick Gershon / Getty Images

First Lady Mrs. O is in New York today, visiting the U.N. headquarters for the United Nations General Assembly. More to follow.

Update: Confirmed! Mrs. O wears a Michael Kors red silk shantung four button cap sleeve jacket and matching skirt.

Ok. The Met dress. I like the style and cut of the dress - A LOT. I'm not feeling the faux string design at the waist however. I like her hair, makeup, shoes, and jewelry. I'll give the dress a B. I'm sure she is going to get crucified on here when Mrs. T posts it. I'm not looking forward to that. So, Mrs. T - if you read this - please post that dress and then quickly move on to the the dress she wore on the plane headed to Pittsburgh. That one was sufficiently uncontroversial. :-)

Not entirely unrelated...I scrolled through 6 or so pages on that flicker account for the State Dept. of pictures of variuos leaders with the President and First Lady. I am simply amazed and impressed that they managed to take all of those pictures and look so nice in each one. That's hard to do. I think Mrs. O's posture and smile were perfect in each one, and Mr. O hardly changed his body position or smile in each one. I am just amazed that they look so good in all of those pictures. There would be a few "off" ones if it were me.

And I do not like to single out pretty vs. not-so pretty, but our President and FIrst Lady are really good looking. Compared to many of the leaders and their spouses, our people are HOT. I only saw 2 or 3 women that were pretty like Mrs. O, and maybe one man (the leader of Montenegro) who I think could come close to the handsomeness of our President.

Edited to add: I'm somewhat on the fence about the color of Mrs. O's "Met" dress. I'm stuck on, "It's not so bad." It's certainly not her best color.

Ladies,

There seem to be two posters use use "Nancy" as their screen name--me, and someone else. I just want y'all to know it was not THIS Nancy who made a critical post regarding Barbara's "rules" at 10:41 p.m. yesterday. Egad, I was bed sound asleep by that time. (DWTS does that to me!)

Barbara, I understand completely where you're coming from with the "rules" you learned. I did, too. I adopted most of them myself and am not quite convinced that all rules are made to be broken.

Cheers, from the Nancy who just returned from a week at the beach (with no internet, thus no Mrs-O. Lots of wonderful seafood, though). <G>

Met dress is lovely; bring out rosy tones in Mrs. O skin. The background is the culprit. This photo with everyone in black around her make the dress pop! Great shoes, too!

I'm living in Zürich Switzerland for many years(formerly Houston) and I discovered this site some time ago and I think it's really fun to read all the different "fashion opinions"of Michelle Obama.
She is such an outstanding, highly educated, attractive
woman andI love her style, colors and above all she represents the USA in a fantastic way. I'm very proud to have this wonderful talented couple in the White House.
I supported Barack Obama from the beginning of the
campaign.Tough times for him now,but he never disappoints in all his decisions and as a person.
I'm looking forward to see many more happy occasions with
beautiful clothes-that's the enjoyable part of living.

Nancy (who came from the beach, lol),

I'm so glad you cleared that up.

I was really puzzled -- as I could not reconcile that comment with the Nancy that I know from months of posting here.

CNN GUYS

They are showing the first lady and POTUS on CNN for the Meet & greet G20 leaders. She's wearing a beautiful dress

Just saw her beautiful dress for this evenings reception on CNN. She looks beautiful.
Her dress is stunning. The President looked proud and dapper as always.
They are a dynamic looking couple

Ari thanks for the link. I saw them really quick on CNN. So I didn't take a good look at the dress

I have to say WOW, she's done it again. Beautiful and sexy. Her hair is beautiful and I like the color of the dress.

I'm happy they have an umbrella over FLOTUS head because on Sept 11, they let her get SOAKED!! She looks goregeous in that dress. Best outfit thus far

OH it's now live on CNN.com

Mrs.O and our President are too cute. I was just watching them interact with one another on the cnn.com live feed as they were waiting to greet heads of state. Michelle was fixing his tie and wiping some of the rain off of his suit and he got a tissue and patted the rain off of her bare shoulders (which are looking fabulous in that floral dress by the way). They were also making jokes to cut the tension with the press, the military men and the aides around them. Mrs.O even jokingly asked someone to sing because it was so quiet. I love seeing candid moments like this.

I usually hate these kind of dresses but this one that FLOTUS is wearing is gorgeous!!!! I Love her hair and pink shoes!!!!!!!!

Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 6:40 PM | Registered Commentersierra

I'm not sure about the dress this evening. I haven't gotten a good look at it but the pattern is weird and it looks kinds country. I think a dress like the one she wore to the medal of honor ceremony last week would have been good for this evening as well. Also, the long single strand of pearls is kinda boring and just hanging there.

And the CNN camera is horrible and makes her and the president look like they're 5'2 and dumpy. Maybe when I get a true picture I can get a better sense of the dress.

Just got a look at a photo. Still not a fan of the dress but it looks far more flattering and dressy in the photo than is does on the cnn.com camera. On cnn's camera, it looks like it's a plain sundress, not dressy.

I just love their interactions.

I always love Michelle's shoes and these pink ones are gorgeous. Suede maybe? Love the color, and the fact that she's got the guts to wear pink shoes and the style to pull it off!

Another thing I love about her is that she is so very graceful -- she always looks comfortable and relaxed but always has her hands in a graceful position and manages to stand gracefully for all these millions of photos. Must be a side effect of being in such great shape -- I wouldn't know!

I'm with Julia on this. Michelle never follows fashion rules, for all the talk of her right to bear arms and her belts and bows, she CONTINUES

Friday, September 25, 2009 at 4:14 AM | Unregistered Commenterjestina

I am definitely with Julia on this. Michelle is one confident self assured woman. In spite of the comments about her right to bear arms, her belts and bows, she continues to wear what SHE likes and enjoys and is completely unfazed by the media comments. I for one, have always admired her ability to pull off colours and fabrics that many of us would shy away from. So much so, that I find myself taking risks and chances with my wardrobe that previously I would not dream of doing.

This woman was born to be the first lady because she is without a doubt the FIRST in a very long time to stand out and make a real difference.

Unfortunately, I've seen other photos of this outfit. It doesn't photograph so well when she sits down. It looks great standing up. Shantung is a great material but a little tricky to wear. Great color.
