Gorgeous as usual. Can't wait to see what she wears to the reception for the heads of state at the Met tonight.

Quelle beautee.....Toujours tres belle. I noticed like always she sometimes coordinates her outfit to match her husband. He is weraing a red tie, and FLOTUS strikingly beautiful in red. I can't hardly wait for the remaining week.....

She looks absolutely lovely. I LOVE the shade of red she's wearing!

Looks like another version of the bright yellow cap-sleeved (Michael Kors?) suit she wore a few weeks ago. Silk gazar? Great color. And I love self-fabric covered buttons. I'd have skipped the bow.

This photo shows the collar, which I don't believe the yellow suit had. ??? Also the color looks different, but lighting and photo processing can alter that.

I love the fabric used for this outfit. Very cute. Love that it's a suit but still has some flair to it.

I just cannot wait to see what she'll wear when hosting the G-20 spouses tomorrow night.

Correcting myself, the yellow suit did have a collar. For some reason (perhaps the difficulty in draping rather stiff silk gazar) there is an extra dart at the bustline that has changed the fit. The yellow suit seemed to fit better. This suit is a great look. But different fabrics can be tricky.

The shade of red is gorgeous, the cut of the suit is flattering, not a big fan of the bow, but Mrs. O pulls it off tremendously. I love the way she represents us (american ladies).

Feedback please!! I agree that Mrs. Obama looks lovely, but I still question the wisdom of her stylist.

I know I'm "old" (70) and it may be that my fashion rules are hopelessly oudated...but here goes:

The design and fabric of this suit seems more appropriate for the cocktail reception (after 4 PM) rather than for a midday political event or luncheon. RULE: shiny fabric, after 4 PM

I also felt the Inauguration outfit was the wrong color/fabric for the subzero temps and January....more like an Easter Sunday outfit. She needed a long, warm coat and boots, a hat and a lovely outfit under it all

The Inaugural ball gown was for a summer bride....Jill Biden's chiffon gown was more appropriate for the occasion and time of year.

It just usually seems that the style, fabric and colors always seem a bit "off"...maybe that is individuality

All of this said, I love Mrs. Obama, her casual clothes (except the shorts worn to the Grand Canyon...a flowing cotton sundress would have been better) and her willingness to take chances. I think she is lovely, inspirational and very smart.

The first lady is a class act no matter what she wears! This suit is truly stunning on her, love it!

As always, she's beautiful! Love the color and style of her outfit.
Looking forward to photos of our First Lady at the reception at the Met tonight.

Gorgeous, as always. Love her.

Mrs. O looks great in this figure-flattering red suit. It's very similar to the bright yellow one she wore some time ago, with the same type of cap sleeve, etc. It's a very polished look, but not the traditional boring suit. Along with the style, the fabric and color have that unique Mrs. O quality. She does us proud at this international meeting.

(Sigh) I should ever look so good. And smart and funny too. SO proud of her!

Gorgeous rich color. Her makeup is flawless, as usual

Wow, Mrs. O looks stunning as usual.! She can almost wear any color and it would not clash with her skin tone.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 2:47 PM | Unregistered Commenterhowudoin

There are many beautiful views of her on yahoo. She looks great.

Someone's showing out today and her name middle name is LaVaughn.

Looking good girl!!!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 3:45 PM | Registered CommenterVIctoria Leon

The bow is awful. She has to ditch the underboob belts and the old-lady bows. Otherwise, fabulous.

It looks like Mrs. O's favorite Chicago based designer is getting a nice nod; Maria Pinto will be designing the womens' outfits for the Chicago 2016 bid's delegation to Copenhagen, including Mrs. O! The men will also be giving a sartorial nod to the first couple, they'll be outfitted by the President's favorite local suit maker. Sounds like the team is going to look great. :)

She looks gorgeous!!! Love the suit. It is not boring at all. Where is the anti-suit crowd who said a suit is always boring? Red looks great on her skin tone and it seems fitted just right. For once,I like the bow and it looks appropriate.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 4:35 PM | Unregistered CommenterOriginal Mrs. A

Boazwife, I never even noticed the woman next to Mrs. O. That IS a Michelle-sized belt!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 4:58 PM | Registered CommenterWillow

If anyone can make a suit not boring it's Michelle. This is a suit but it is clearly a suit that SUITS Michelle. The color is bright and vibrant. The sleeves are short showing off her arms. This is a good compromise for those like me who are anti "corporate suit" and those who love Michelle's flair.

A COLOR TO MAKE THE ROSES BLUSH

I actually gasped when I saw her walk in with the President. Mrs. O is lookin' fierce in this color - it's like crimson tide... It expresses her assertiveness and sends all the right messages... bold but not brash, strong but not aggressive or burly and truly feminine chic...Ravishing!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 5:24 PM | Registered CommenterRocky

@ Barbara - Your rules appear to be outdated...sorry to inform you. I hope that in the future, you can view fashion, especially Mrs. O's fashion, without a mind on the "rules" and just enjoy the outfit for how it appeals to your eyes.

Fashion is not supposed to be so heavy with rules and times when one wears a particular fabric or color...that's a bit much IMO.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 5:35 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

Wow, i cannot believe people are slaves to rules in fashion. I say you wear what makes you feel good and what you look good in. Imagine that.. this suit is only suitable ( no pun) for cocktail... progress people progress... :) LOL

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 5:51 PM | Unregistered CommenterLulu

Very cute suit, and I love that she added the bow at the collar for a little extra something.

@ Barbra - I think I'm going to have to agree with IVA on this one. The rules you discussed in your post are definitely outdated. If you take a look at current fashion magazines or runway shows (as Mrs.T has posted below) you'll see that shiny fabrics in the daytime are perfectly fine and an ethereal look like her inauguration gown is totally acceptable even in winter, especially if your inside for most of the time. As far as her colors being "off" I think it's just a matter of personal taste. Now a days women usually shop for what fits their bodies, flatters their skin tone and fits their personalities, rather than what is considered "acceptable" clothing and adhering to rules.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 6:12 PM | Registered CommenterAri

@Barbra

Your rules are OLD, this is the 21st century!!!! Woman do not follow RULES when they get dressed, they follow their own opinion. I have never heard about clothing rules, ONLY on this site.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 6:51 PM | Registered CommenterM.M.

How could Jill's red, strapless gown on a woman close to 60 be more appropriate for the occasion than what Michelle wore? Keep in mind this was broadcast during the Inauguration, which showed all over the world, even in places where excessive skin and bold colors is a no-no, particularly for aging women. I thought Michelle dressed fine.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 6:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterFrancine

I'm usually anti suits, but if you're going to do one, it might as well be vibrant, zesty, and figure enhancing! I don't want to see FLOTUS in them too often but I'll give it a yea!

she is beautiful ! and classy shes the bomb

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 7:02 PM | Unregistered Commenterim the bomb like tic tic

Michael Kors has dodged the "suit" issue by calling this a jacket with matching skirt (and he sells his pieces separately). This one - as well a the yellow worn in late July - appear to be an adaptation of a jacket with matching skirt from his Pre-Fall 2009 collection. #10 in the Style.com slideshow. The sleeves have been shortened to cap sleeves, the closing has been changed to single-breasted, and a collar added to the neckline. The shaping is otherwise the same.

Go Barbara! 70 and on the internet. You go girl.

I agree that sometimes Mrs O's choices are a bit unusual, but that is why I like following her style. It makes life interesting and fun.

PS I vote yes on the bow.

MRS OBAMA RED SUITE IS NICE I LIKE THIS ONE AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GLAD SHE IS NOT WEARRING A BELT WITH IT. AM SURE SHE WILL BE WEARRING HER BELT THIS WEEK.

when will we be able to see flotus outfit for tonight?

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 7:58 PM | Registered Commentersierra

I love the color. Not crazy about the bow, but that's a Mrs. O trademark. I love the tailored fit of the suit and the fact that the waistline is not belted! Yeah! We love you Mrs. O.

I totally agree with Barbra. I love Michelle and I love the suit. I was shocked out of my mind to see that she was wearing it at 9:30AM! What are all those high salaried assistants doing for her? It is clearly something for late day activities and I don't think age or rules matter here. It's a matter of good taste and judgment.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 8:09 PM | Unregistered Commenterpinky

Was going to comment on Barbara's rules, but so many others of you have already covered that well. I'm an oldie like Barbara and I remember growing up with all kinds of rules on how to dress and then all at once it seemed all the rules disappeared. Also on the luncheon the president attended today, a lady was shown repeatedly while we were waiting for his appearance. She had on a very shiny red suit with longer sleeves but a lower neckline. Imagine that!

But the picture that best epitomizes the most meaningful appreciation for Michelle is shown in the below link. I saw it on film as he sat in the chair before he gave his speech..

Love the color, love the bow, love the shine of the silk shantung. Yes, it is true in the "old days" shine was for evenings, but here I think it is A-OK.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 8:44 PM | Unregistered Commenterkbarch

Sierra, I waiting on the pics of tonight to be posted too...I hope it was open press. It seems like when they had the G-20 overseas we got to see alot of pics and they were posted quickly, but since its over here in the US...they are slow with the pics. Even this morning, they were only a few shots of Mrs. O
