A Pretty Pin For You

Dear Readers,

It's hard to believe this little blog began in September 2008! The first lady and her dynamic, ever-evolving style continue to draw us here in celebration and admiration, even two years later. On a personal note, I want to thank each of you for your ongoing support and contribution to this blog. Your comments and insight make it what it is. (Case in point: without reader "marky mark," the internet wouldn't be buzzing about Mrs. O's latest Marc Jacobs frock!)

In honor of the holidays, and to say thank you, I am giving away a vintage Hattie Carnegie silk brush pin, similar in style to one that the First Lady often wears. Pictured above, this vivid green gem is 4 1/2" inches in diameter ... an accessory for the bold! It is in stellar vintage condition, save for a slight faded spot on the enamel center button. You can see Mrs. O wearing her orange Hattie Carnegie pin here or here

For your chance to add this Mrs.O-inspired pin to your jewelry box, please add a comment to this post. I will select the winner via random.org on December 24 at 9pm EST. Please check back then.

Happy Holidays and THANK YOU! xoxo Mrs T

Update: Congratulations to Megan B. who posted comment #163. You are the winner, picked via random.org. I will email you shortly! Merry Christmas to all!

She's a work of art, the piece de resistance!!! She looks like a fairy princess from a mythical kingdom, who bestows compassion and good will on all her subjects, and draws you into a magical spell with her beauty. Her ability to coordinate and blend so many different fashion genres for her dizzying social schedule and public appearances is nothing short of sheer brilliance. But more than that this woman represents the fierce determination that is America. She reminds me of the Statue Of Liberty, a beautiful lady holding her torch to light the way to the greatest and freest country on earth; a country solid as bedrock, unified in greatness, and with a heart of gold. Happy New Year America!!!!

I so admire Mrs. Obama for what she does, for her sense of humor and for being so "down-to earth." Reading the Christmas story and asking the kids in the audience what she should buy for the President was a stitch,

Love her style and confidence--in everything she does including her fashion sense. Though she doesn't have a conventionally perfect figure, she wears what is fun or elegant. She's definitely
an inspiration.

And thank you, Mrs T for creating the blog!

How much do I love Mrs. O and her pins and this Blog? I check her out daily. I went to Chicago recently to check out the haunts where she shops. I check the blog daily and I bought vintage Michellelike pins for my daughter, friends and colleagues this year for Christmas I hope that each of them looks back to Christmas 2010 as the year that brooches and pins and First Lady glamour became their mark. Thank you for keeping us informed and in awe. Merry Christmas

Not to disparage this lovely pin in any way (I really like the shade of green), but it reminds me a bit of those old-fashioned typewriter erasers! I would be thrilled to own anything by Hattie Carnegie!

So many websites that focus on celebrities are snarky. Yours does not go there. Instead it provides inspiration. Even if you don't agree with the politics, you have to dig the style. Thanks!

Okay, I'll be honest: I would SO LOVE to win that BEAUTIFUL Hattie Carnegie Pin!!!! I Adore jewelry. I don't make much $$$ - and I spend Way too much of it on vintage jewelry! The "old stuff" is, imo, the Best! I Really Do Marvel at Michelle Obama's style, because she knows how to wear vintage jewelry w/her modern fashions! I LOVE this website, and check it Daily, to see what Michelle is wearing! I don't think we've EVER had a First Lady who wore clothes in a More exciting and fresh way than Michelle Obama does! Her style is just so COOL, BEAUTIFUL, ELEGANT and COLORFUL!!!! I am Thrilled that she is Not afraid of unusual color choices or Bright colors! So many people Are afraid, which is a shame. As an artist, color is Vital to me! Michelle Obama Always pulls off her choices, too! Moreover, she Really knows how to wear Fabulous Jewelry, and is Not Afraid of Making a Statement. She's Not a spare minimalist who is timorous around Jewelry, thank goodness. She packs a Lovely Visual Punch with her bright, unique & interesting pins, bracelets, pearls, glittery necklaces, etc. It would be So Exciting to win that pin - and wear it in Honor of Michelle Obama! I LOVE her! I do Not always agree w/her husband's policies to be honest, even though I'm a Democrat. But, Wow, I Do think Michelle Obama is GREAT! I would be Overjoyed to win this pin! I can't Afford a Hattie Carnegie pin, on my own. When I first saw - on This Very website - Michelle wearing one, I was Entranced! This flower pin looks like a Beautiful, yet Whimsical creation, almost like something dreamed up by Dr. Seuss, but so Pretty and Sophisticated, as well! (I wanted one Immediately but they are Not cheap)! Btw, LOVE your book, on Michelle's style, too!!!!

It is a wonderful Christmas season this year, with our President reaching his stride, finally victorious in some of the areas that matter most. Mrs O has been his rock, and his partner, and a fascinating woman who expresses herself so beautifully for all of us to learn from. Her pins and her beautiful bare arms symbolize the power of a woman who lives her truth, and knows how to reach our hearts and minds for the good of all. Long may she be our First Lady!

Merry Christmas

I love this blog. I am a Southside Chicago girl just like FLOTUS. I read the blog faithfully everyday. I find myself checking back often throughout the day for updates. I would love to own the pin. Truthfullly and thanks to an inherited collection from my grandmother, I have been wearing pins for several years. I am pleased to see them make a comeback! Thanks FLOTUS. :) Happy Holidays.

There is a moment, in the midst of EVERYTHING ELSE, when I click over to see what Mrs. O is wearing right now–almost as an act of rebellion–that is just so delicious. John Fuselang said recently: "Just want to take a moment to wish 'happy holidays' to all our friends angry about the 'war on Christmas." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al4ctc41IIE) I'm worried about you guys. It's Christmas..." Your offer of a fancy green pin is just perfect in THESE TIMES. It, like your blog, is kind of like a gold frame around a perfect, and strangely profound experience for me. You rock. Hey, it's Christmas, yay!
