Sitting Pretty in Peter Som

Photo by Don Emmert / Getty Images

The First Lady watched as the President addressed the 66th General Assembly session at the United Nations in New York today. Mrs. O wore a Peter Som Fall 2010 dress and custom coat last seen in London during May 2011. A Henry Schreiner brooch from House of Lavande completed the look.

I knew I recognized this dress from her most recent London trip. She looks great.

I liked the updo, but this is refreshing!

Her hair has really grown out a lot from the last bobbed cut. Looking fab!

Hope all see that Mrs O wears her clothes over and over and they all still look great on each occasion.

Lovely...reminiscent of her hairstyle when she made her debut on the international stage at the DNC in 2008...well, to me, anyway! That seems much more than three years ago. What pleasure she has given a lot of people since then.

I love the purple and the hair is da bomb baby!

Thanks for the photo, mincey. I think Mrs. O wore that dress early in the administration to an event at a theater, I forgot which one. I do remember her standing next to Richard Thomas (John-Boy Walton) wearing it.

So thankful that the hair is gorgeous, long and lush. Was growing weary of the pinned up style.

Right you are, Groovy! I couldn't remember where we had seen it but after your comment I found the photo: http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2009-02-11-fords-theatre_N.htm

Not a very flattering pic of her, but this is one of my favorite outfits. The last time she wore it in London, I wished she had worn it to a more photo op worthy occasion instead of just leaving London.

I think her pin-up was 'protective styling' ... a hairstyle worn to prevent breakage and over manipulation of the hair. I don't know if Caucasian women do this but it's common among Black women, espcially those of us with natural hair. Or, it's something one might do during the winter months when the air is so dry.

It certainly worked ... her hair looks long, glossy and amazing ...

@ Groovy, good catch. I had totally forgot about that event and today this outfit looks just as fresh and sophisticated as it did then. The brooch seems to be the perfect accessory for this ensemble although I would love to see it with something in white. Oh well, a girl can visualize!
It's good to see our Michelle wearing her hair down again. Someone commented that it makes her look younger...... I think I'd have to agree with that.

Bibi you have a memory. That is the black and white dress she wore to the reopening of the FORDS theatre.

CID, I like the dress each time, and I like her hair both ways. I guess I am easy to please today!

Not so pleasing is a story I just saw about the diamond bracelets the other night. Apparently there is controversy about them, even though they were borrowed. OK for Hollywood, not for a first lady. Sorry, Mrs. T, I know I shouldn't vent here, but I can't help it. I can't stand to see Mrs. O attacked, with all she does for the country.

Groovy, they are HATERS, plain and simple. There is no other way to put it.

Her hair is so long and gorgeous! Like it way more than her bobbed-style cut and I am glad to see something different than the up-do. She looks great!

Our First Lady looks so very pretty.

You can see the love, admiration, and respect she has for President Obama radiating throughout her smile.

Peace.

@Mrs. A, I agree -- this one is too good to be used for a fleeting moment (leaving London) or when the FLOTUS is almost inconspicuous. Hope Mrs. O pulls it out for a full public appearance sometime soon.
