Prabal Print and a Prince

The White House had a sepcial guest today: HRH Prince Harry! Prince Harry joined the First Lady for a White House event to honor military mothers.
On the fashion front, Mrs. O wore a Prabal Gurung Resort 2013 dress, previously seen here.

Maybe I'm the first one to comment? This dress is gorgeous! To me, Mrs. O always looks nice in pastels. Also, Jill Biden's dress is cute as well. I hope we can see her picture here.

Here's a beautiful capture of this event from my favorite Dept of Defense photographer, Terry Moon Cronk - you can actually enlarge the photo. This photographer always captures Mrs Obama so beautifully and leaves you in no doubt as to how important and central she is in her role, to the moment and whatever event she's hosting. That's how you cover a First Lady - and a magnificent, fantastically sublime and historic one at that!
I wish the White House would snatch her/him up as the First Lady's photographer. There is something incredibly respectful and profound about the way this particular photographer covers Mrs Obama.
I think I might just have to start a petition on WH.gov to get Terry Moon Cronk assigned exclusively to Mrs Obama:

Nice but this picture looks photo bombed; like Mrs.o in prince Harry's picture.
Such a beautiful print - a great cut for her figure and the sheen is perfect for the occasion. I notice that Jill Biden is wearing her dress from inauguration day - lucky that she is not the First Lady and can re-wear such a beautiful dress.

@SoccerNana, this particular photographer does great work. Very professional and very respectful. Doesn't just churn stuff out, but takes meaningful and very well framed pictures that are very respectful of his/her subject.
I want to know who Terry Moon Cronk is. Man or woman. And if we could possibly get the White House to steal him/her away and permanently assign them to cover the First Lady.
But think about it, what a missed opportunity for these photographers and how so very short-sighted of them.
If they were even remotely smart, they'd be falling all over themselves to officially cover and document Mrs Obama.
Pete Souza the president's official photographer will probably cash in at some point and do a pictorial book of President Obama, his years in office in pictures. I don't think Pete Souza is particularly good, he just takes what I call "opportune" pictures of the president by virtue of his access. He doesn't particularly cover the First Lady well in my opinion.
But the real money would actually be had for the equivalent pictorial book about Mrs Obama and her years as First Lady. And in order for it to sell well which it will if done properly, it has to be respectfully and beautifully done by a person of Terry Moon Cronk's professionalism, dedication and ability. No sloppily thrown together stuff.
I can't stress enough my dismay at the White House and its less than satisfactory coverage and provision of top notch staff and resources for the First Lady.
Say what you may about him, but the one thing I did admire and like is that George W. Bush understood that the presidency and legacy was not just about him, but also very much about his wife Laura too. And so he made sure that his staff and White House were as responsive to and respectful of his wife and that she was very well provided for and properly protected and looked out for. He made sure everyone understood that she was just as important as he was and so there was no playing up to him at her expense. Which is even more impressive when you realize that she was less active on his political campaigns and even his presidency.
I just finished reading this month's Architectural Digest and it had an article on and pictures of the recently opened Bush presidential library. Laura Bush was very much in charge of the project and I like that her husband entrusted her with THEIR legacy and not some outside person. And George Bush says of the library and his wife's efforts, "She made this place OUR own".
Presidential legacies are very much about the president AND First Lady and so must be the covering and documenting of it.

I've been following this site since January, this is the first time I've commented. I think Mrs.Obama looks like such a picture of Spring in this dress. Her hair looks so shiny and flowing, and I love how she stacks bracelets.
I also appreciate how she is repeating dresses, a la Kate Middleton. Probably not as close together as Kate's repeats are, but good all the same.

Hey Viv, maybe not such a good idea to link to the offending article on Huffpo!!! You only end up giving them major hits and increasing traffic to their site which is precisely what offensive articles like those are designed to do!!! Ignore them and when they realize nobody is taking the bait, they'll eventually give up and stop with their mischief-making!!!
I think I understand what Audrey is saying. The president has a dedicated photographer who releases pictures from all of his events every single day!!! This makes it easier to counter any unflattering pictures put out there by "independent" photographers covering the same event!!! People tend to use the pictures of the president put out by the White House during events, precisely because the White House puts them out and does not allow the independent press and photographers define the president, his interactions and the extent of his participation at these events!!! So why not for the first lady too???
So if for every event the First Lady does, her office releases their own set of photographs taken by her assigned WH photographer, it is more likely that those are the pictures that will be used and circulated by as many people and organizations who want access to free pictures, which the White House allows as long as they are not misused. Even Mrs T could use those and not have to purchase through Getty etc. since they are free!!!
I also get what she's saying about the way the First Lady is covered. I too have a problem with it!!! Images are powerful and impactful!!!

These pictures captivated the whole world, endeared the world to our First couple and most importantly, solidified and elevated Barack Obama as a great and devoted husband and family man. That was worth a great deal in political currency not only here at home, but everywhere in the world!!!
The presentation of the president and first lady as a close, solid and impenetrable couple and partnership has been powerful and enviable and has gone a long way in helping President Obama maintain a great deal of his support, admiration and respect from even some of his ideological and political enemies!!!
This second-term, there seems to be an uncomfortable shift of sorts to present him apart or solo and I think that's rather unfortunate and will inevitably backfire!!!
The narrative of this president as a great husband and father has positively impacted and shaped people's opinions of him, why move away from that??? It has also made him credible when he argues for the rights of women as equals and stresses family and family values as a way to help our children and our society move forward in a positive way!!! It resonates because the country and the world see him and the first lady live it out publicly!!!
If the thought is that presenting him with his wife in these wonderfully heartwarming moments, is somehow not "macho'' enough, then they should look back at Ronald Reagan who too was publicly unabashed in his love for and devotion to his wife, and that certainly didn't hurt him in any way!!! It actually defined and endeared him to the nation in a time when that wasn't even considered "macho", typical or politically correct!!!

I agree with Elroy. The President does seem to be a very loving husband and father. We are very fortunate in this country to have had, with the exception of Bill Clinton, Presidents who openly love and respect their wives-I am talking recent history. However, being a terrific family man does not automatically make you a competent President.

@Jenna, not only is President Obama a terrific family man, he is also very much a competent President and potentially, one of the greatest.
We know you're a Ben Carson fan, but Dr. Carson is not going to be president any day soon. He's actually sort of done - fizzled out as quickly. Didn't quite hold up under the spotlight. Sorry.
The dress is exquisite but the (length of) the bangs have become a distraction. To heavy on such a lovely face.
