Striped in Bordeaux and Black

Mrs. O is officially into her Fall palette, wearing a striped dress in bordeaux, black, grey and white this weekend. She paired the look with the black patent leather belt worn earlier in the week. We feel almost certain that Narciso Rodriguez (Update: the dress is H&M! More to follow) is the designer behind this look. The cut and pattern of the dress bears striking resemblance to another Narciso Rodriguez dress that Mrs. O wore in April, below.

Tied in a Bow

Michelle Obama at Tallahassee

Photo used with kind permission from ServiceNation, www.servicenation.org

While campaigning in Florida, Mrs. O wore a basic shift in burgundy, accented by a navy blue ribbon tied at the waist. While the sleeveless cut of the dress is more summer appropriate, the burgundy hue is a great way to transition to fall. The two are a perfect pairing for Florida, where the weather is still quite warm into late September. A mismatched season and temperature always pose a sartorial challenge, but Mrs. O handles it with her usual grace. Mrs. O also seems to have a growing penchant for ribbon, most recently seen as a bow placed at the collar, and now here as a belt. We have a feeling this is only the beginning of Mrs. O's signature ribbon, and we can't wait to see what's next.

Thakoon II

More excitment on the Mrs. O fashion front - another Thakoon dress - this time for the first Presidential debate on Friday night. Excellent slide show here. Mrs. O wore Thakoon's Inside-Out dress from the designer's Fall 2008 collection, named for its exposed darts in white. The dress fabric is a silk floral print in pink, yellow and brown, overlaid by a subtle lattice pattern. Mrs. O embellished the look with a brown satin bow worn diagonally at the collar. Might the bow be a new Mrs. O signature? The bow at the collar was also seen in Mrs. O's October More magazine cover.

New Jacket(s)

Not unlike the rest of us, Mrs. O broke out her Fall wardrobe this past week. Making stops in Madison, WI and then Philadelphia, PA, Mrs. O sported two variations of the same cropped jacket and patent leather belt, first in royal blue and then black. The clean lines are reminiscent of the Narciso Rodriquez suit Mrs. O was seen wearing regularly this spring. She mixed up the similar looks by pairing the black jacket with her signature jeweled brooches in black and white. Mrs. O's style lesson: If the look works, why not buy more than one? Sparkles Day and Night

Remember Mrs. O's blue mystery frock with the collar of sparkling brooches from the DNC? Mrs. O must have loved the brooches as much as we did. She seamlessly added one to a more casual look at the University of Virginia rally earlier this month. Accessorizing her powder blue twinset shell and tailored grey pants, Mrs. O proves that the brooch can work as well during the day as it does at night.
