A Stand-out in This Season's "It" Color

Michelle greets the crowd

Photo used with kind permission from photographer Criz

Skinny, purple pants are not the easiest to pull off, but here, paired with a striped purple fitted tee and deep purple cardigan, Mrs. O works them with confidence. In general, skinny pants tend to be polarizing. Some find them unflattering no matter what your figure. Others love the slim lines and ankle cropped length. As Mrs. O wears them, paired with ballet flats, the effect can be very Audrey Hepburn. Add purple to the equation, and there's bound to be an even greater difference of opinion.

Anyone who's shopped this fall is familiar with the rows of brightly-colored denim and cords that fill retail stores like J. Crew, Madewell and Uniqlo. Too much for some perhaps, but they add vibrancy to Mrs. O's ensemble above. Here, Mrs. O wears the "it" color of the season: purple. Even Mrs. O's petite floral earrings match the palette.

Purple is one of my favorite colors and Mrs. Obama wears it well. She is so beautiful.

I like how casual has been these last few days before the election. Projects confidence and I think endears voters to her. Great job again Mrs. O!!!

Where is the top from? The pants? Must have them!

Dear Amy, I'm trying to track these down, but no luck thus far. She wore a similar blue pair at a rally in Columbus yesterday. They have piping down the side seams, which I thought would make them easier to find, but no luck so far. Will keep you posted.

Mrs. O has horrible taste in clothing. The election night dress was so unflattering. Maybe the attractive Mrs. Biden can help her with choosing a more suitable wardrobe. Mrs. O is certainly no Jackie O.

Sorry, but I must agree with LCS on this.
It pains me to say this because I just adore this woman, but it's true, Mrs O does not have good taste in clothing !
In everything else, certainly, but not in clothing !
We need a First Lady with sobriety, elegance, and the occasional flash of understated daring.
But all these outfits she's been wearing ! help!
Election night was a disaster. I don't know how anyone can find that a flattering dress for her.
Please, Mrs O, bring your finery up to par, up to the standard our First Lady should strive for.

I agree,Mrs O does not have good taste in clothing.. trying to wear casual to seem part ot the common folk, was a good try, but then we hear how much was spent on the campaine trail and it just blows...
If you want to be a part of the common people , the bigger part of the United States, try living on 50- $60,000 a year. Buying a home, feeding a family of 3 or 4 , buying clothes at WalMart or K-Mart for the family and trying to save enough to have a nice car or truck to carry your family to church or town. Not to mention trying to save a little in case one of your kids wants to go to collage..
When you can say you live and make ends meet, then you will be one of the people..I hate hearing about the middle class, that make around 150,000 a year. get real, there are a lot more people living on less then 70,000 a year.. we are the common people.. Who is looking out for us ???????

LCS, I'm sure Mrs. Obama isn't trying to be Jackie O. Mrs. Obama seems to have enough confidence that she doens't have to try to be someone else to be approved.
Eileen, could it be that she wore casual clothes to feel comfortable? Being a politican doesn't mean not being able to be comfortable.

She is practical not taking advantage of her title. Not letting the idiots in the fasion industry dictate what we should look like to make themselves rich .You go girl be yourself. Just outright stunning FIRST LADY YIPPY> I'm 58 yr old white female.

I thing the first Lady must be used other colors on her dresses because she is dark brown tone skin so is better yellow or sky blue. Very sorry for my english...

Mrs. Obama looks great to me. She is in great shape for a woman in her 40s with 2 young children. Actually she looks better than some women I've seen in their 30s. I like the fact that I can afford some of the clothes the First Lady wears. Her style makes her more approachable which is unusual for a Harvard law graduate. My hats off to the First Lady/Mother/Wife and I hope she doesn't change a thing I respect her for being herself.

I think that she is useing common sence. Just let it be. She has her style and just because she is the 1st Lady doesn't mean she has to wear things like everybody else does. She is fine. And I think she will grow into what she thinks is Mrs.O.

You know, I'm not a fan of skinny pants usually, but I think she's rocking this color, and her height probably helps her pull off the pants.
