A Delightful Pin or Two or Three

Image courtesy of the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection

Carole Tanenbaum, the curator behind the magnificent Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection, is one of the most lovely people I met in 2009. She is as genuinely enthusiastic about the first lady's style as we are, and the source for many of Mrs. O's stunning vintage brooches (including the Victorian sash pin that Mrs. O wore for the inauguration).

To end the year, Carole Tanenbaum has done something exclusively for the Mrs-O.org community, which just excites me to no end. She recently acquired a collection of 60s metal flower pins - of the John Lennon "make love, not war" flower power era - with Mrs. O readers specifically in mind. Beginning today, she's offering them on CaroleTanenbaum.com, in the "Mrs. O Lovers" spotlight section.

Each flower pin is made of metal and enameled, and offered in a range of bright hues and metallics. True to Mrs. O's propensity to wear flower brooches in clusters of three, Carole Tanenbaum is also offering these pins in trios. You can purchase one pin for $35, or a very Mrs. O-inspired group of three pins for $90. You can mix and match or make your own signature selection. In any combination, these pieces are sure to make a 'wow' statement.

Click here to peruse the "Mrs. O Lovers" Spotlight on CaroleTanenbaum.com, and have fun!

Update #1: Wow! There seems to have been a buying frenzy. There were 18 pins and trios when we first posted, down to only 7 left!

Update #2: We've just heard from our friends at the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection, who are working to accomodate the overwhelming response for these pins! There are a few more pins that have just been put up this afternoon for a final go-around. All orders will be processed on Monday due to the New Year holiday tomorrow.

Also to note, the Carole Tanenbaum site does not automatically mark things as sold when someone puts an order through (orders are taken and then the site is updated manually). In the case of duplicate orders, they are operating on a first come, first serve basis. In the event that you placed an order for an item that was already sold, your credit card will of course not be charged. Apologies to those that this affects. The response has simply been overwhelming!

Just sent them an email to order the all black pin from the "Passionist in Pink" collection. Thank for for posting this info. I love Carole Tanenbaum, but never thought I would be able to afford anything in her collections!

Mrs. T, you have brought joy to so many people with this site. I come here almost everyday but have not posted till recently. I think you deserve the Jason W.

It would be special if the ladies who have purchased the pins had a way to post them here so we could see the ones that sold out so fast. Just a thought. ;)

First, I am a fan of the O's. I have been followed this blog for quite sometimes, but have not seen anybody who has had the idea that, behind the scene, FLOTUS might get a very good deal with the designers. She might only have to pay a fraction of the price and even get them for free since in a way she is their “live, mobile” model that their clothes would be seen by millions of people. Better advertisement than catwalk!

Nguyen--that's a way for first ladies to get in a whole lot of trouble--it's happened before--Nancy, anyone?

Just wondering how people were able to order the pins individually? I spent about 20 minutes on the site, about an hour after this blog entry was posted and couldn't figure it out. I emailed the Carole Tanenbaum website with my individual selections and didn't hear back from anyone...now the 3 I wanted are sold out :-( Can anyone help, please?

Hi CocoNat, I just updated the post above. I think the response to the pins has been overwhelming. The Carole Tanenbaum team is working to accommodate everyone, but I think the high volume of orders/interest has come a bit by surprise. Please see my update above. Thanks for your patience!

I emailed with the 'contact' button and told them what I wanted and received an email saying they would do the details like payment Monday.

For those who love the pins and couldn't / didn't buy from the Carole T. site, I recommend educating your "eye" to this kind of costume jewelry and hit the thrift stores, flea markets (with old stuff), church sales and yard sales. There are gems (pardon the pun) just waiting to be worn by the stylish "in the know" women who can mix it up with panache! I think the one thing Mrs. O. has taught us is to have fun with fashion!

Not sure if anyone knows this but Mrs. O will be on the Food Network Sunday night at 8pm ET. It envolves the WH chief battling another chef and using top secret ingredient from the WH garden, I can't wait to see this.
