Narciso Rodriguez for eBay

Images by Paul Cruz

Last fall Narciso Rodriguez announced that he would introduce a new capsule collection in collaboration with eBay during 2010. A capsule collection in partnership with a retailer beyond the usual suspects of Target and H&M is quite an exciting prospect, particularly for what it might offer to a more grown-up customer.  And from the first looks above, the enthusiasm has been well-merited. The integrity of Narciso Rodriguez's design aesthetic is alive and well in this collection, made all the more enticing by its accessible price point.

The designer says: “I am extremely excited by the possibilities that this new online sales channel brings to my business long term. For me it’s always been about dressing many women of all ages, all types, all sizes, and this special collection on eBay is a unique opportunity to reach a broad global audience.”

The eight piece limited-edition collection features Narciso Rodriguez's clean lines and sophisticated color blocking, created in a palette of red, black and white using imported Italian fabrics. The collection will be offered in prices from $65 - $350, sizes 0 to 14, and available for purchase exclusively through the Narciso Rodriguez eBay Store.

The best news? The wait is nearly over. The Narciso Rodriguez for eBay collection debuts this Monday, February 15 at 12:00PM EST, here. Perhaps Mrs. O will be doing a bit of online shopping?

Fun!! I would wear the heck out of the top shown in the third picture. I hadn't heard about this at all, Mrs. T -- thanks for filing us in!

I visit and enjoy this site very often and rarely post, but something about these pictures jumped out at and startled me. This model looks about 14-15. I've read that now that seems to be the age of many runway models.

She truly looks like a mannequin. And I realize that's the intention - a body to hang the clothes on. I realized how often I've looked at pictures and looked only at the clothing. But for some reason, this time, I SAW this model. I was thinking that Wow, that is a real person there and I had barely noticed her, but yet she's very powerful. Her size drives fashion and impacts so many women and not in a good way. Size zero anyone? And yet, she is also perhaps powerless and controlled by the industry to starve herself and be that size zero.

Questions: Why are young, not fully developed, skinny teenagers still modeling fashion to be purchased by the rest of us? And piled on with makeup to make them appear older. That's perhaps what a thin 14-15 year old body looks like naturally, but not a 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 or 60 + body.

And why are people still allowing these often emaciated looking bodies to be something to strive for? So many of these models are unhealthy and many have eating disorders. I know that readers here don't necessarily fall into that category to strive for. We have Mrs O as a model for real women. But that doesn't take the fashion industry and designers off the hook with those images of skinny people projected over and over and over.

Why are the fashion designers still allowing it and going along with it? As though this is just the way it is, and so we become psychologically conditioned by seeing it over and over and thus numb to it - just as I was when at first I didn't see this model as a person, just a clothes rack. But she too is a person. What does this say about me, our culture and our respect or lack thereof for women and our bodies?

I just needed to say this.

Hey Emily,

I was just thinking the exact same thingl Mrs. O would "rock that!"

Black and White sheath dress would be absolutely stunning on Mrs. O with her
fabulous figure. Hope she adds this to her wardrobe. It's as if it was designed just for her.

Notice the curve around the arm area, perfect for her "sleevesless signature." IMO
'made for her’. Versatile, works well for many occasions, office, date night etc.
When she walks in a room with this style, she'll be glowing, all eyes will be on
the FIRST LADY OF FITNESS & a 'picture of health'. This dress is for you Mrs. O.
get it....get it.... get it....
What kind of accessories would one wear with this dress, do you think??????
Maybe some bracelets for sure, and a tiny white earing. Smart black shoes - be nice.

Love these pieces.

@ Jay - funny, I didn't notice the model either at first. Then I actually looked at her and I noticed that she's quite skinny and remarkably bland. Strange.

@Jay: I appreciate what you're saying as it applies to the modeling industry in general, however........

This girl looks about my daughters age (anywhere from 20-21 ) AND she also does not look stick thin to me like so many runway models do (but this looks like a print ad and that's a whole different thing). Look at this girl's legs. They're actually pretty big for a model....they actually look normal. This girl is just flat chested. My eldest daughter is 22 and her figure is very much like this. So are her friends' figures. They run anywhere from a size 2-4. My daughter neither starves herself or works at being slender. It's her physiological makeup. I was like that, too, well into my 20's. Maintained a weight of about 105 (I'm 5'3").

The idea a lot of designers strive for is just what this girl delivers - for the model to recede so that you notice the clothes, not her. This is not a haute couture shoot, obviously.

This girl could be anyone pulled off the street of any Scandinavian country. Pale, blonde, toned, young. It's just what NR wanted.

Mrs. T,
Thanks so much for letting us know about this. Although I doubt that any of the items will be my size, my daughter would look fabulous in that red dress. I just hope that it is not the item that is $350!

As to the model--I recently bought a shirt from a rather young line. It fit me in the shoulders and hips, but is tight in the bust. The black and white dress, altho pretty, would not look good on anyone with a normal grown up bust. Just sayin.

@Christen: Most of the designer lines (Rodarte for example) were specifically marketed and designed for juniors, and H&M is pretty much a junior store.

i must admit, I'm a little underwhelmed by this. It looks "ebay" quality and a little frumpy. Which is a shame because I LOVE LOVE LOVE him! and that camel outfit the first lady wore to the concert the day before inauguration was to DIE FOR!!

Thanks for the info, Canyongal. I haven't been a junior since I was a teen, but my daughter is a perfect junior size 6, so I'm familiar with a lot of junior lines. I don't care for H&M.....it's cheesy.
