Style on the Field

Images by Jim Watson / Getty Images

The first lady is participating in a soccer clinic in Washington, DC today, joined by the US Soccer Foundation, Major League Soccer, Women's Professional Soccer, the National Alliance for Hispanic Health and other organizations, all in an effort to highlight the "Let's Move!" initiative. Though we've seen Mrs. O give a series of speeches and interviews on the "Let's Move" initiative over the past few weeks, today we saw her put those words into action, quite literally.

Per Political Punch, the first lady's soccer attire consisted of: "a black scoopneck long-sleeved T-shirt over a black tank top; a silver track jacket; yoga pants and black and pink tennis shoes."

I have to APPLAUD our First Lady for her agility and athlectic ability. Personally, eventhough, I'm agile when it comes to yoga, stretching, and modern dance movements...me and that soccer ball has never gotten along well at all! LOL!!!

I love the top. If you visit any specialty store like Big 5 or Sports Chalet, take a look at the latest workout clothes and accessories. The tops and pants hug the body and are comfortable at the same time. Great weekend wear. Adidas pants fit me like no others. Love slipping into them after work. Lots of brands are putting out some really hot lines of athletic wear. The nice thing is, most athletic lines of clothing coordinate and you can mix & match. And don't get me started on yoga pants..........best invention since sliced bread!

This woman is just so awesome! She is the first First Lady I've seen actually out in the public working on a community event. Kudos to you Misses O!

So impressive! What a great example -- and motivation -- she is to all of us. She makes me very proud.

Our first lady is awesome!!! She just looks so natural doing what she's probably done thousands of times. (Malia plays soccer as well)

I love this lady! God Bless our President and his family continuously. Amen!

Looking very sporty, Mrs. O! I love it. She is a normal woman/mom/wife/girlfriend and I love that she reflects that in her clothes. Do we any other First Lady would've shown up dressed to play and then actually played? What an especially great image for young girls.

She walks the talk! She is amazing. And she looks fantastic-healthy, fit, gorgeous in a natural, non artificial wayl. A real role model for young girls (and us so not-young-women!) to continue to be inspired by.

It's great that Mrs. O is so comfortable with her own athleticism and shows all sides of her love of life.

Yoga/gym/exercise outfits are a huge component of the US collective wardrobe.

It's refreshing that Mrs. O shares that exercise is important to her. Look at those quads and her grace. And how much fun is she having?!! I wish I could see the full smile on that young boy's face - we can practically see the edges of his grin!

Love her love her love her.

Hey, y'all. Next week is gonna be big for us because Mrs. O has three days in a row of high profile events, including an awards ceremony with Hillary Clinton.

I think we're gonna see some amazing fashion!

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 10:21 PM | Unregistered CommenterTracy

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM

Who would have thunk it! I mean we know she works out, we've seen her arms, even her legs in shorts, but THIS!

How many First Ladies OK moms do you know don't mind getting all sweaty and sticky in front of cameras, and have fun doing it?!?! Some people might even think it's silly and a bit childish, but Mrs.O is once again proving everyone wrong and has indeed raised the bar. This is a challenge for all of us - stop thinking about what other people might say, and just do it!

She is just so cool!

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:59 PM | Registered CommenterRocky

Her gams, looks at those gams, , there you go, I'm thinking that she could shoot some pretty mean hoop.

Good to have a basketball brother. Watch out Mr. O., she'll beat you in a game of horse on the court.

No one noticed that the First Lady is sporting a black headband. It's not so obvious in above photos, but I've seen other photos of this event where it is more obvious. Very current as a spring trend.

Love the photos too. And you are right Darrell. ..."Fit..Fabulous and Forty- something"...Look out guys. My prediction...ALL of the major ATHELETIC CLOTHING LINE designers, such as Nike, Adias, etc. are going to be sending her clothing samples/suggestions. I'm quite sure that the WALL STREET stock market of the sports apparel she wore in these photos SHOT THRU THE ROOF!!!!...Such an inspiration to me. And I usta teach aerobics for 8 1/2 years. She has been the driving force for me to renew my committment to a healthy lifestye...I'm getting back into a total exercise/healthy eating regime "Permanently" now! Thank you FLOTUS. She does this Country PROUD.

Great link, Patient, thanks! Love the images of FLOTUS with her hair flying and so much energy and life in her face and entire body. Total engagement!

Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 9:25 AM | Unregistered Commenterouapiti

Yep I noticed the headband and her outfit shows of her totally gorgeous form.

Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10:49 AM | Unregistered Commenterdasie

@AppleGirl & Patient – great link.

Good choice. In a close up picture, her shirred top moves with her body and compliments
her physique while flattering her curves. Ofcourse, black is slimming, and the gathers
in this soft polyester type fabric flows while she moves and is quite fashionable at the same time. The tank-top has a dual purpose, could be spandex which looks
athletic and stylish, also keeps her firm when running etc.
Not sure if its separate. At last, “not all talk,” plans are put into action. Know what they say, “Actions speaks louder than words.” Amen halleluyah!!!

Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 1:10 PM | Registered Commenterprettiribbons

Hi all. I was thinking just the same thing as many of you. When have you ever seen a First lady so active and not afraid of getting down with the rest of us? It is far easier to keep one's composure cutting ribbons. A lot riskier to try something new. I really applaud her for this. And she looks very athletic and great doing so.

Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 3:35 PM | Unregistered Commentershelly

Anyone know what brand she is wearing? Inspired I went out to buy some cute workout gear, IT ALL MATCHES!! I usually wear ugly gray sweatpants.

Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 4:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterThatOtherMimi

Let's Move, Indeed! I absolutely LOVE this! I wore a similiar outfit just yesterday to my workout and even though its nothing especially spectacular, the fact that our First Lady is not only wearing it, but EMBRACING it so confidently, made me squeal when I first saw this pic! She looks so natural and in her element, and to me that speaks volumes. Never has a First Lady made me so proud. She can platn vegetables or roll up her sleeves at the homeless kitchen or kick a soccer ball and she manages to inspire and uplift---and look extraordinarily wonderful while doing it!

I will admit it proudly: Mrs. O, is definitely my woman-crush!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "They sure don't make First Ladies like they used to". This one is some kind of special!

Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 2:25 AM | Unregistered CommenterNicole

Love the outfit, looking good and probably feeling great whether standing or at full speed. Agree with Charlene and so many others - MO has raised the bar in so many ways. Subsequent First Ladies will continue to have their clothing choices/fashion sense dissected from every angle and will be expected to have a "cause" to support but it will be interesting to see their level of personal involvement in these areas of interest. Mo will be long remembered not only for her style and certain outfits (her first arrival at the WH with Pres-elect O in that wonderful red sheath that announced we were in for a bold self-confident woman is still a favorite for me) but she will also be remembered for her intense passionate hands-on activities whether getting down in the dirt for the WH garden and that tree planting event, the way she envelopes children with her hugs, loving and motivation, how she moved many to tears with her heatfelt remarks to the London schoolchildren then getting down on her knees to hug them....so much more..

Lots of opportunities for MO watching this week...info from Politico 44

3/8 Mon 4:30 pm Mo delivers remarks at a reception honoring women from around the world and their achievements

3/9 Tues 10:00 a.m. MO presents her 2009 inaugural gown to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History

WOW!!! Breaking FLOTUS news! First Lady Michelle Obama will be donating her inaugural gown to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History; it was announced today by the First Lady’s office.

The white, one shoulder silk chiffon Jason Wu dress will join the ranks at the American History museum in Washington, D.C. of other First Lady’s famous dresses –Jackie Kennedy, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Helen Taft, among others. Mrs. Obama’s shoes and jewelry will also be on display.

Mrs. Obama will formally present the dress at the Smithsonian on Tuesday and will be joined by aspiring young designers from Huntington High School Fashion Program from New York.

I wonder what she'll wear? How fun!!!
