A Magnolia State Visit

Images via Facebook.com/Whitehouse

The first lady is in Jackson, Mississippi today, visiting Pecan Park Elementary School and Brinkley Middle School to discuss healthy eating for school children as part of her growing Let's Move initiative. The Clarion Ledger has a full report, here.

Style wise, the first lady returned to an old classic, a banded Narciso Rodriguez jacket worn on the campaign trail in 2008, seen here. Today Mrs. O paired the jacket with slim black pants and a cropped wool pea coat. It's fun to see how Mrs. O gets mileage from her wardrobe and transitions key pieces from season to season.

gosh, there I spent one year as an exchange student almost thirty years ago. The school buses still look the same. ;-)

And your First Lady is as beautifull as always. :-)

Any details on the feathered pin from the 2008 campaign photo? Any close up shots from that suit picture? Interesting piece, a must.

Good closeup pics up on yahoo.

She has on a purple tank and her black studded belt under the jacket. You can see on yahoo. I kinda don't want to post this pic because I know the wolves are going to come out because the shirt is kinda see-thru, which I doubt Mrs. O knew. So, I hope none of you have a heart attack from seeing the FL tummy a lil bit and I won't get upset when you do because I brought this on myself, LOL!!!

You're funny Nyon. I won't jump on you. I dig the slyness of her style. She's sexy subtle. Not your mama's first lady.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 8:05 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

IVA, I know right!! ;-) But, I am not worried about people jumping on me. I just know some people are going to have a fit about it. SMDH!!!

Nyon, you're too funny. I saw the Yahoo pics earlier and I knew the "authorities" will be out in full force. I didn't remember this jacket from the first appearance at first, seeing the purple feather pin it bought all back. This is a nice casual outfit, love that coat.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 8:51 PM | Registered CommenterCharlene in Detroit

Is she wearing stirrup pants? Please tell me no. I'm not liking the cropped jacket with the tapered pants - not a good look for us chicks with hips - Mrs. O included. And how about some color - it's an elementary school!

Hello everyone, while harmlessly Mrs O stalking on Flickr I found a set of photos from an event in January that I had no clue about. The White House really needs to get on the stick and update the first lady's page of photos. By the way didn't we have some nice behind the scenes photos this time last year. Anyway, here is a link to the photos an the lovely suede boot that she sported for awhile. http://tinyurl.com/ydxwzys

This is a great casual outfit, and outfits like these make Mrs. O. seem more approachable. Did not care for the jacket with the purple feather pin (too much going on), but it looks good here. Have always liked the fact that Mrs. O. thinks of ways to re-wear pieces of her wardrobe...just like us "regular" folks.

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 4:18 AM | Unregistered CommenterChristen

The Narciso striped jacket/suit is one of the few things that I am not fond of in the First lady's wardrobe. I didn't like it on the campain trail and I don't like it now. But then I dislike stripes of any kind so I guess I'm naturally biased. I still love her and the great work that she is doing.

I just saw the video and I am in love with the pea coat!

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 8:24 AM | Registered CommenterAshley Williams

What an inspiring video featuring Mississippi's first lady and her husband, the gov. She has already started some of the same initiatives that Michelle is working on. It's true that both of them can learn from each other on how to promote their programs. The Let's Move program and others like it are the type of of thing that can be implemented without spending a lot of money, and there are SO many opportunities to really effect some positive change. Good luck to both first ladies!
Yes that pea coat is very cool, especially the billowy sleeves!
(Stirrip pants NO WAY, that is actually a shadow hitting her ankle ha ha)

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 9:39 AM | Registered Commenterbabs

A very approachable look. She is considerate and puts a lot of thought into the appropriateness of what she is wearing according to the event she is attending, just as she did when she visited the kids in the library the other day in her argyle twinset. She can look like anyone's mom one minute and like royalty at a fomal event the next. The last fashion icon I remember who did that was the late Princess Diana, who is now forever known as the People's Princess. Michell Obama is the People's FLOTUS.

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 10:01 AM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

Hi all, I thought the outfit was appropriate for speaking to kids. I especially liked it with her coat on. Also, I found this picture from the Stevie Wonder benefit concert a few weeks ago.

I came upon a raw video that lasts 21:32 minutes of Mrs. Obama's visit at Pecan Park in MS, and she is not wearing stir-up pants. It definitely is a shadow in the 3rd photo. She actually is wearing regular pants. It's very plain to see as she is walking across the school grounds with the governor, his wife, a teacher and a few of the students. To me, the entire outfit looks very comfortable and befitting for her agenda.

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterMs. M

"Sexy subtle" to wear a see-through tee that reveals your bra and your navel? I don't think so.

She should have worn the argyle sweater outfit one more time. This outfit is a huge miss.

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 4:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterBeeGee

Here is the photo of the striped jacket and show through tee that I was referring to.

http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2010-03-04-michelleobama.jpg

Do you really feel good about her wearing something that could cause her to be mocked? If so, you're not her friends after all.

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 4:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterBeeGee

This is the quickest way to find the video, which is located at www.wlbt.com (an NBC affiliate). Once the website is in view, select the header, news, which will take you directly into that section of the webpage. Once into the webpage, scroll towards the right. In the upper right section of the page, there will be a box entitled 'Top Videos' where raw footage of Mrs. Obama's visit can be seen. Enjoy!

Correction: It should read stirrup in my previous comment.

WTF are you talking about Bee Gee? Whoever said they were ok with her wearing a see-thru shirt. I said I wasn't going to get mad, but you are talking so FOOLISH right now, I can't help myself. Do you really think any (sane) woman, let alone the FIRST LADY of The United States, would wear a see thru shirt to a children's event. Please, think before you type. If anyone is not her friend it is you. The one who is always so quick to point out her flaws and dwell on them. GTFOH with that foolishness!!!

BTW, Thanks Ms. M.

american puritanism. i'm sure that it was the light when they flash that picture(anyone familiar with photography knows that).and Beegee noone is mocking her except you. i love how people love to project their feeling onto others. a confident woman like michelle obama always brings the insecurities out of some people.and i see nothing with her outfit.it is quite sexy i might say.more power to her.

Mrs T
I noticed that you removed a recent comment of mine which simply said "Get a life" to someone who claimed that FLOTUS' arms hang out but now Nyon can say "WTF" and "GTFOH" and nada.
I am beginning to wonder.

Ms.M - Thanks so much for sharing the video. I really enjoyed watching it....so down-to-
earth. Her hair is absolutely perfect. I love that her hair stays in place even on a windy day.
One of the good things about being a blogger here, is learning about the different sites we
can visit for more info. I'm not very well informed in this area.

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:45 AM | Registered CommenterGroovy

What does GTFOH mean?
(oh dear, is it something that needs to be censored?)

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:52 AM | Registered Commenterbabs

I have seen every photo and video regarding our First Lady's visit to the state of MS and still didn't see and can't find one where she's wearing a see through top and her bra is showing through it. I only made the searches just to make sure that I'm not missing anything, so when I did make a comment, it would be valid and substantial, and at least, have a foundation to base my findings on. I conclude, that it's just like the angle and stance of the photographer in photo #3, when the picture was taken where a shadow made it appear as if Mrs. Obama was wearing stirrup pants. So, therefore, I've stopped searching, yet I'm glad I made the effort. Each video I watched had me glued to it and hanging on the First Lady's every word regarding her platform which is truly that of a 'Mother' who wants the 'Best' for her child or children, family, community, and country, collectively. She challenged the students to 'be their brothers keeper' and that challenge extended to the teachers, parents, even all the way to the governor. So, my searches turned out to be very rewarding, at least to me!

@ chrystelle (as an American...my sentiments match yours exactly regarding the shadows and lighting from the flash bulbs which can be very tricky), i.e. when a person could have sworn that their eyes were open after being photographed, only to find out that they were closed when they saw the photo. So 'Thank You' to you and lorns!

@ Nyon...I agree that Mrs. Obama is sane...to me, she has more common sense than that. Plus, her husband wouldn't approve, because that type of top/outfit would only be reserved for him and him alone. BLUSHING! LOL!!!

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterMs. M

Trinisamba, don't worry, I'm sure once Mrs. T reads it she will delete it. A couple of my posts have been edited, so I am not sure what you're wondering about. Although I would like to ask Mrs. T, if you can just delete the acronyms and not my entire post, but I understand if you do. I know better, but oh well, thats what I wanted to say.

@ Groovy, Homey don't play that!! LOL!!! ;-)

Babs, it may need to be censored depending on which word you think the "F" stands for, which no one knows which one I'm using, but whatever. But it means get the ___ outta here

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 12:14 PM | Registered CommenterNyon

I must say I find it interesting that BeeGee is so quick to jump on people's bones about an innocent remark, again to spew out the venom that seems to be on the tip of his/her tongue. Anyone who has posted here with Nyon knows she is a fan de la fans of POTUS and FLOTUS. So please, lay off her.

Really, some of you should stay on the Michelle Malkin or other anti-Mrs. O websites. We know very well the kind of language that is used on those sites. So to feign that you are indignant here is really over the top.

And to Nyon, ROFLMAO!!

I was just about to post that link too. Oh my gosh, I have never seen a more physically fit, active and modern first lady! When was the last time we saw a first lady running around an obstacle course with a bunch of kids and having a great time? She is truly refreshing and sets a great example for her platform on childhood obesity. I really like her active outfit too. It's just slightly baring her shoulders and the straps of her tank top but you can tell the outfit was intended to look that way. So cute.

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 12:56 PM | Registered CommenterAri

@trinisamba
She motivates me so. I have always been active but in the past year, in trying to keep my business alive during this recession eating a lot of pizza and hogies at my desk late at night I have gained 15 pounds, in a year, can you imagine! So when she announced her initiative, I started moving again, making the small changes, like having a good breakfast that keeps my blood sugar normal until noon etc, etc, etc, most of us know what to do. I have already lost 4 pounds just from walking more and cutting out the constant snacking. Once I get back to my cycling I'll be on my way. I bought myself a nice little Michelle-like sheath dress which I plan to wear on my 33 wedding anniversary in 6 weeks. Now my husband sees that my FLOTUS obsession is paying off and he likes it!

@ dasie
I loved your comments, a few topics down, about her imperfect normality(my words) I think that is precisely why I am drawn to her. No First Lady in history has had to face the scrutnity that MO has not Jackie - there was no internet then, not Hillary who has graciously faced her own tribulations.

@ juliede where are you, I miss your posts.

I wasn't going to comment on the sheerness of the top but I feel I must. Please note, flash photography sometimes makes some fabrics sheer. It has happened to me. I was wearing a black t shirt in Japan and stood next to a plant to have my picture taken. In the photo my top appeared sheer. I was mortified (sp?)! I am sure our first lady did not purposely wear a sheer shirt, I am sure this controversy comes from all the flashes on the cameras.

@tammy

Thank you for making the most sense in this thread, because some people are acting like she INTENTIONALLY decided to show her bra. Every clothing item is not made out of heavy material. Also, I love the simplicity of the outfit.

I too have been the victim of the flash, especially when wearing my favorite tees that are a mixture of cotton and spandex. Nyon you hit it right on the head, BeeGee repeatedly loves to point out what she perceives as flaws in Mrs. O and will then dwell on them ad nauseam. I am not offended by Nyon’s post . What bothers me more is that the subtext of BeeGee’s posts often read as though, despite her education, background, and many positive accomplishments, Mrs. O doesn’t have or show a lick of common sense.

Nyon, I’m sure the F in your post stands for “flaw fanatic”, and to paraphrase Churchill; a fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject. Mrs. T. - I say leave Nyon’s post intact.

@ denisegirl, I mostly lurk these days but I follow Mrs.O with great interest. I'm a size 4 but my cholesterol is as high as the POTUS so I have to make some changes too, like Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia twice a week instead of every day! LOL!

Yes, she is so inspiring.

Wow. So a fine knit top shows a little bit of what's underneath? Big deal. You all never seen that happen to someone you work with or a friend when out for lunch? Cos, if not, you're needing to get out more I feel. For my money, it's the flash photography. And even if it wasn't, Mrs O is just fine as she is and frankly, if my navel looked that good, I'd be wearing ACTual see through things, not just fine knitwear like a normal person. This is SO "no drama" I don't even know why it was mentioned.
