Cats, Hats and Argyle

Image by Mark Wilson / Getty Images

First Lady Mrs. O is at the Library of Congress today to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and to kick-off the National Education Association's Read Across America celebration. As part of the event, Mrs. O read Dr. Seuss's "The Cat in the Hat" to a group of children wearing red and white striped stovepipe hats.

Mrs. O turned to a collegiate argyle cardigan by Moschino, paired with black trousers and belted at the waist for the appearance. Pearls and ballet flats completed the library look.

Now, that's the way to do business casual! And for the first time I like the placement of her belt; it actually sits at her waist line :)

Definitely a "library look!" Preppy and nice. Been missing her standard cardigans lately, so nice to see one making a quick appearance.

I notice she has a certain look when she is with children ... she's always, for the most part, on point.

She does indeed have a glow about her when she's around little ones, they must re-energize her. There are some really good pics on Yahoo of this event. It was a perfect outfit for today. We've seen it before and I still like the argyle twin set. Nice!

I love Mrs. O, and I am so jealous! If Laura Bush (though nothing against Mrs. Bush) or I or most women were to wear this outfit, we would look like nothing special, so how does Mrs. O look so classic and lady-like and glorious in a gray argyle sweater and black slacks? How does she do that??

Preppy and cute. Love it.

Love everything minus the belt. This is the most flattering pic of the belt. It looks awful in other pics I have seen. Mrs. T, I am guessing you picked this pic for that reason.

@Mrs. A, I picked this photo because it showed the ensemble from head to toe!

After seeing so many lovely photos of Mrs. Obama in vibrant colors, the black and gray look completely uninteresting. It would have been a better choice for her to select something more whimsical for her day with the children.

Mrs O, as usual, looking radiant and absolutely appropriate for a visit with children. Love the chic colour palette, love the shapeliness given by the belt.

(Rushes off round the back to WAIL privately about the Argyle.....)
