Gold Rush

Recepción en Honor de la Sra. Michelle Obama

Cena de Honor de la Sra. Michelle Obama

Foto: Imperio Resendiz

Last evening, First Lady Mrs. O capped a full day by attending a dinner with Mexico's first lady Margarita Zavala in Mexico City. Mrs. O dazzled in a yellow gold sheath dress, accessorized with gold bangles and earrings. The first lady certainly has been on a hot streak in Mexico City!

Update: Mrs. O wore a Jason Wu custom chartreuse satin sheath with inverted pleat bodice detail.

What a great color for dinner. She looks effortlessly chic, and beautiful.

Hot streak ?? Mrs T, FLOTUS has been on fire this week. Every single item of clothing (including accessories are complete winners). She has done America proud and you should all be proud of her. I'm not American and I am, so reminds me of Princess Diana.

I would STILL give my right arm to find out her skincare and make up regime.

Hot I love the cut of this dress Mrs. Obama truly has the right to bare arms. I have been working on my arms as well; I must say I’m getting toned. I would like to give everyone a fair warning the more tone my arms become the tighter my shirts and jackets feel in this area. What she I do if I go a size larger in some cases it makes the outfit look stupid?

Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 9:04 AM | Registered CommenterAshley Williams

Ashley

I have been working on my arms as well. I made it clear to my trainer that I didn't want to look butch but wanted to look toned like Michelle Obama. She laughed and said that SUCH is the demand for Michelle arms that they are currently thinking of doing a tone and burn class called Michelle Obama. I am telling you the absolute truth. She said women of every age and race are inspired by Michelle’s (pre First Lady) ability to raise a family, hold down a high powered job and go to the gym. She said it is all in the amount of weights that i lift and the rep's. I invested in a good book and I’ll give you the details later when I get home.

Blue!! - Floral!!! - Pink!!!! - Gold !!!!! Someone!!?? ....PLEEEAAASSSSE ....get me a fan!!! I can't take it anymore!. This woman is too hot for the world. This has been a splendiferous week for FLOTUS. She is simply FANTASTIC - GORGEOUS - DYNAMIC - SELFLESS - SELFASSURED - and she manages to still be so humble. AND, does not take herself too seriously.
Dancing with the children brought tears to my eyes. The energy, the honesty, the purity of the moment(s). Not many, if any, high profile people would allow themselves to be captured in such openness. Their false pride would get the better of them. Those children will savour these moments for an eternity.
I could go on and on but alas I must stop or I just might write all day.

@ Ashley Williams - This is where you start to have your tops customised for that perfect fit. Keep up the good work though. I am proud of you. I still have not gotten to the point where I am comfortable with how my body looks but I will get there slowly but surely. Just have fun with the results.

God! She's killing me because every outfit gets better than the last. This dress is simple elegance. It's not a lot to it but it's amazing! And it looks incredible on her. Go FLOTUS!

Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 9:55 AM | Unregistered CommenterTracy

@Ashley Williams: I lift weights all the time and some times there are long sleeve tops/dresses that are a bit tight on the arms. You can buy a larger size and take it to alterations for a better fit in the waist. I usually just go with the flow b/c eventually things stretch. You could also lift lighter weights. Here's to healthy toned body.

Beautifull color on a beautiful lady. When you are beautiful on the inside anything you do or wears shines through. Mrs. O is truly beautiful.

Another Hit! I love the makeup, the hair, the jewelry, everything!

Anybody know if Mrs. O will be joining POTUS this weekend for the funeral in Poland?
The articles I read only said POTUS, it never said if the The First Lady would be attending.

Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 10:56 AM | Unregistered CommenterBritt

Really pretty. When she keeks it simple and elegant, she comes out looking flawless. On another not, The Mexican First Lady is not too shabby either :) I wanna learn how to tie my scarves as nicely as she does.

Juat had the honor to shake Mrs. O's hand at the rope line at the American Embassy gathering here in Mexico City (she was wearing a simple but striking winter white pantsuit with a grey shell and a several strand mixed grey pearl and crystal necklace, bronze pointed toe pumps). I told her she is making us all proud; she replied that we made her proud. Her energy was the most forceful thing about her, during her speech, posing for a photo with the embassy community children, and while shaking hands, yet again, with a bunch of relative strangers.

Why do I have the feeling that this dress has been seen before? I think I'm in the minority so far - not overkeen on the colour and not overkeen on the shiny. Love the bangles though, and Mrs O herself is radiant in that first picture.

Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 11:37 AM | Registered CommenterPosh Tater

Mrs. O is the Queen of Sheaths. I love the way this squarish neckline balances her upper body. It's really a perfect shape for her. The color is stunning on her!

Mrs. Zavala seems to have a signature "look". Her wrap is similar to the white one she wore to the museum outing (just a different material).

Sophisticated, Modern and Sexy. Loves it!
I wonder if this is the Margiela suit she was rumored to have bought through Ikram a while ago?

I would like to thank everyone for their kind words of encouragement and their suggestions. I will make an attempt to use them all. And hey it is getting warmer outside so I could always go sleeveless.

@ Jestina yes I know what you mean I am truly inspired by Mrs.Obama I am making changes to my style of dress (I'm forcing myself out of the tom boy faze, it so comfy and easy to do especially when you are pressed for time as I am with, being a full time college student.), eating, and study habits. I have also been thinking about applying for the internship program at the White House it would be a dream to work in her office.

The color here immediately reminded me of the gold she wore in Copenhagen when we were seeking the Olympics. This is not as orange-ish, but it is still very dramatic and looks wonderful on her.

I've loved all of the clothes this week, but my heart belongs to the blue floral she arrived in. When she bounded down that stairway off the plane, and the skirt just floated in air, it really took my breath away.

She is a great ambassador for us - smart, humble, warm, articulate, uniquely American, and with a remarkable ability to connect to the children of the world.

She makes me smile.

I love this Web site! And I love the comments of the women (and men) on this site! (Thank God they are filtered to keep the shrill, mean-spirited and outright vicious comments out.) I find a lot of them informative, though not useful to me as a man. Yet, I do pass a lot of them on to my fashionista sister, who, by the way, is working on her arms too!

P.S. Toned (and even very slightly muscular) arms are hot on women!

Mrs. Obama looks fabulous! I'm not sure about the lighting, so I will conduct a search in order to get a better view of the color of this dress.

I have to agree with operafanatic that of all Mrs. O's wonderful outfits this week, the blue floral is at the top of the list. The color, the movement, the shape of it all captured and conveyed a wonderful sense of passion, elegance, humor and grace -- qualities our FLOTUS has in abundance!

Other than the pink family, this is my favorite color for her. I think our Michelle wears chatruese/lemongrass/mustard/yellow-gold like nobody's business. Maybe because those are my favorite tones period, but I really like them on her. This dress is simple and elegant and being a sheath dress, well that makes it a home run in my book.
By the way, the First Lady of Mexico is no slouch in the fashion department, herself! I like the way she ties her shawls/wraps offside. It looks quite chic. That watermelon color dress that Mrs. Zavala is wearing really brings out her skin tone and looks good on her. Both of these first ladies are glowing in these pics. Very nice indeed!

This dress looks great on her! I did not particularly care for the floral pattern on the wrap dress yesterday, but I absolutely adored those yellow shoes! And from the pictures that I've seen this morning, looks like she's rocking a bad suit! Muy Caliente!!!

Dancing with childreen? Hum! she got a lot of energy but why is it so difficult to stand by , watching for a while ?
Does a First lady have to dance in front of millions of camera to please the world?

Honestly, i am not happy with it ... she should be discret , and make a lower profile instead of

The yellow dress ? i am not fan of those bright color , so flashy!! but the gold, i say Yes!
Back home , in my home country, most of woman wear gold for ordinary or special occasion. It's a must for us !

Mrs O know how to value herself with jeweleries although of the too much of yellow.

Mrs T , thanks for this site and the beautifull photos.

I had recently made the decision to ignore what I considered stupid comments from some that occasionally pop up on this site and move on to those who offer some insight and perspective on the First Lady's fashion and activities. But today after reading Ginger's comments I can't hold back. @ Ginger, what is your problem? You take offense to the First Lady's interaction with the children, as you put it, "she should stand still and not dance to the cameras", and she "should be more discreet". What utter nonesense, since when is it indiscreet to interact with kids who took time to put together a performance in your honor? I guess in your world she would show greater appreciation by standing as stiff as a board off to the side then take a standofish attitude as the children approach her. Thank God our FLOTUS doesn't subscribe to the old-fashioned, snubbish, elitist sensibilities you seem to appreciate so much. Finally, your comment about not liking the bright colors our FLOTUS prefers, who cares. If you've spent any time on this site you would have realized by now that the consensus here is that the FLOTUS looks great in bright, jewel tones, which works well for her, not only due to her complexion, but also her carriage, personality, and her approach to fashion as being fun as well as functional. So if on occasion she wears something you don't particularly like, then don't wear it. I find your overall attitude funny because I'm pretty sure that when she wakes up each day she doesn't concern herself with whether the likes of you will give her two thumbs up for her choices that day. So don't stress yourself so much, take a chill pill, and move on to the next photo, and if she continues to disappoint you with her choices, then I suggest you go somewhere else to entertain yourself.

I love this site. It's the calm where a lot of other sites are the storm. Anyway, I loved this gold dress and she looks fabulous.

When I can't get to this site for a few days, I'm not happy until I have the time to check in. This time I couldn't check in for a couple of weeks and it was such a joy to get home and to see what I had been missing. The outfits in Mexico are just wonderful. I love Mrs. O in the gold , the pink, the blue and everything in between. She just has such self assurance and it shines through on all of her pictures. She seems to be having such fun and to be so full of life. She connects well with everyone and that is what makes her so incredible.
It was good to see Mrs. Robinson with the family at the Easter Egg Hunt. I can see where Mrs. O gets the warmth and the ability to connect. She is so lucky to have her mom with her. I love this site and the people who write such wonderful comments. Keep on doing what you're doing. The site is a keeper.....

Speaking of the bare-leggedness trend! It looks as if the First Lady of Mexico City is bare legged in the 2nd photo.
