Suit Savvy

The first lady met with twelve Mexican student leaders for a roundtable disucssion before departing Mexico City today.

Mrs. O ended her impressive style run with a modern white pant suit that features sheer (or gray?) insets on each sleeve. The first lady paired the suit with a gray top and heels. More to follow.

That's a really great fitting suit and the sheer insets add a touch of cool. There also seems to be some interesting sheer paneling and a bit of ruching in the back of the jacket which you can see in the pic link below.

Love your blog ... got to know it from HUFF POST.

I think that you made a mistake on the garments description: " ..t.hat features sheer insets on each sleeve..."

If I am not correct and I could be wrong what you think are sheer is merely gray.

Is that possible?

Such effortless elegance. I love the necklace which accentuates the outfit so well.

I think I noticed some earrings in another photo that looked much the same as the ones she wore for the state dinner.

Is this the Maison Martin Margiela suite we had heard so much about?

Wow..she never ceases to amaze me...love it!

Is it possible this jacket could be a knit, because of the way the sleeves hug the arms. Michelle never fails to surprise-- she even puts her own twist on a basic white blazer. Love it.

POWERFUL NEUTRALS

She came, she saw, she conquered. Mrs.O wears this pant suit like no other! From entry to exit, she has maintained her definitive style with subtle hues, intense colours and now the "traditional neutrals". She has virtually won the hearts of all of Mexico with her ability to remain, fun, flexible and classic.

Gotta love this woman!

So hot, yet so cool! I love it! Can't think of any other FL who'd ever wear such an outfit!

I love the deatils on this suit. I saw more views on Gettyimages and FLOTUS looks great in this white suit.I like how she punced it up with grey/silver tank and shoes. I think this necklace might be from the Monique Pean collection at Barney's. She's on a roll!

French women say that you haven't finished dressing until you have sprayed yourself with perfume. I say, you aren't finished dressing until you accessorise. That necklace has pulled both colours of FLOTUS' outfit together. I love it. It looks cool, fresh elegant and simple.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, she has done America proud. British political wives don't do anything like what Michelle is doing. I bet POTUS will be putting on an extra special date night for his wife when she returns. She truly deserves it. I'm bursting with pride at how much warmth she has received and how well she has handled herself on her first solo trip.

Hello there! I was trawling through the Bergdorf Goodman site and found a Fendi suit that has similar grey panels up the side (grey/transparent): http://www.bergdorfgoodman.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod53460011&parentId=cat299813&masterId=cat299801&index=0&cmCat=cat000000cat000002cat000010cat299800cat299801cat299813
However, Mrs. Obama is not likely to have worn a Fendi, since it is an Italian label, and she mostly wears American designers abroad. Please take a look at the link and let me know what you think.

Mmm, like this a lot. Which makes me happy because I haven't really liked a lot else this trip. But this is way cool.

(If it's Martin Margiela, could it be the white tux that we had a rumour about a way back? Maybe it wasn't a tux or a le smoking but this suit?)

The tall woman in the back looks like she's wearing FLOTUS's inaugural ball gown -- asymmetrical shoulder strap, ivory, covered in roses...

Friday, April 16, 2010 at 8:57 AM | Unregistered Commenteremilie

Great suit, but especially great choice to go with the drapey top resting at hip level -- imparts a youthful look that is still grown-up chic.

Friday, April 16, 2010 at 8:57 AM | Unregistered CommenterLinda

Claire you might be right.and for your info Mrs.O wears Moshino a lot and it is an italian label.

New York Magazine's The Cut reports that the necklace worn here is Monique Pean and the jewelry worn with the blue Tracey Resse dress was by Monique Pean & Mark Davis for Monique Pean. Monique was nominated for a CFDA Award the same year that Sophie Thaellet was, who is another Mrs.O fave. I also read that Monique is part Hatian-American. I think it is great that Mrs.O represented an American designer with with Hatian roots right after visiting the country.

Jestina's commnet makes me wonder-what perfumes does Mrs. O wear? Anyone know/?

@jenh, I read that FLOTUS wears "Love in White" by Creed. I've seen it on Ebay and at Saks.
HAPPY SHOPPING!

She is simply LOVELY!!! Looking through the various pictures of her trip to Mexico, her warmth and ability to put people at ease is so evident. You could feel the warmth in those hugs she gave. Beautiful!!!

Still no update on the white suit? Sorry ... I'm so anxious to know and I so hope it's a French label.

Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 10:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterPipsqueak

Finally! A long jacket (unbuttoned) and long-ish top not tucked into something - these pieces give her a much longer, more proportionate line (as Midori mentioned - she appears taller) than the belted cardigan look that she favors. Plus, those shoes are fabulous. (If only I could wear white like that...) :-)
