Mrs. O & Bo

Official White House Photo

Those who have been to Whitehouse.gov recently may have noticed a new official portrait of the First Lady, wearing a Talbots dress.

Mrs. O explained the new portrait to PopSugar:

"We get so many letters from kids, who want to hear about the garden, they want to see it, and they also want to see Bo. Bo is really the most popular. So we decided to do this official picture that we could send to them when they write in. And we've heard so many great stories from kids who've been inspired and doing things like changing the way their families do things. And those letters are always just a joy to get. So we want to have something a little more tangible than just a letter to give to kids, because often it's the visual thing that makes it real."

Hmmm... MO is rarely upstaged, but.

I love them both. Mrs. O looks so fresh and radiant. And Bo!!! I love that he has on one low sneaker and one high top!! I'm sure the 'haters' will have something snobby to say, but I just love this portrait.

At first, I thought Mrs O was barefoot. It wouldn't surprise me if she was, but then I figured.. No, I'm sure that there is some protocol somewhere that would ban that. Whatever, I just love this photo. LOVE IT!!

I bought the same dress last year in teal. I'm glad to see Mrs. O and the First Dog looking so fine.

isonprize, don't even suggest that she didn't have on shoes. The IAP would come out in full force, LOL!

This is the cutest pic ever! If I didn't LOVE these people, I would totally be jealous of them. Even their dog knows how to take a perfect pic.

What a great picture--I'll bet kids love it!! Mrs. Obama looks great, but Bo...what a scene stealer!! If I didn't already have three dogs, I'd be looking for another one. Such a handsome boy!!

This is a great picture! Both Mrs. O. and Bo look totally gorgeous. I think this is one of the best photos I have seen of Mrs. O. Now, how can I get one of those pics?

Beautiful picture!
That Bo knows how to take a picture, doesn't he! That is one beautiful dog. I appreciate the consideration that our Michelle puts into being First Lady. When a child gets a reply with a pic of Bo, I bet it just makes their day.

Bo is such a great dog. That dress is lovely. I purchased this dress after she wore it the first time. I love it. It is so classy and photographs well. She is so thoughtful.

Bo looks so well behaved.....nice idea to have them both captured like that. May I have a picture please....

@philly :)

It's a great portrait idea (and a beautiful portrait). Kids love Bo and the garden. Teamwork.

It's rare to see Bo sitting still, so so well behaved. You usually see footage of him moving all over or pulling one of the Obama family members (the classic "who is walking who(m)" pet and owner scenario!)

Great image and nice message to send to a young generation.

She looks spectacular and how perfect is Bo's expression?

I LOVE that this is the "new official portrait of the First Lady"!!!! Usually, the First Lady would be posed in the WH, wearing some evening gown or at least something most of us could never afford! But this is so so 21st Century, so modern to see the First Lady sitting in her garden, w/ the family dog, in a dress many of us not only can afford, but actually own! And, she and Bo look FANTASTIC!

She is so natural and down to earth. I love this portrait, is so unique and gorgeous even in her simplicity. I would love to ask Mrs O. whether she has planted the Moringa Tree in her garden. Since she is dealing with the issue of better diets and nutrition, may be she might like to check out information on Moringa. Would be a great addition to her plant collection in her farm.

Top 5 pics: Governor's ball (sparkly gray); India State Dinner; her first official photo (black dress); lunch with Bush's after election (red dress); and this picture.

I own a Portuguese Water Dog--my fourth, having been in the breed since 1989--and have to say that Bo is a lovely ambassador for this breed. I get a chuckle out of shots like this; he is always beautifully groomed and this is not easy with this breed. Some who own and/or groom them affectionately call them sewer poodles.

I also have to say that Mrs. Obama chose a beautiful dress to complement Bo's coloring; there's nothing like red to set off a black and white dog!
